There was a mention of Focus Magic in this thread here

http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=64246

I decided to test it on a few images.

Here is an animated gif of the Trifid cropped from the mosaic showing before and after enhancement with Focus Magic. 1.4MB

A terrestial shot enhanced the same way 2.1MB

Focus Magic does not seem to have any artefacts that you get with star reduction or Richarson Lucy enhancement. I went one pixel under their recommendation. This number appears when you load the image.

Below is an image showing the full frame of the Pardalote. Taken with the 5D and Canon 300mm F2.8L hand held from about five metres away at f/5.

The second image is a 100% crop from the enhanced image of the Trifid.

I am that impressed with it I have already bought it.

Try it for yourselves. You get ten free image enhancements.

I looked into this app last year and thought it would be a cracker.
Thanks for the review Bert.

On the stars it seems to make them a little more crunchy, although it does seem to improve the nebulosity.

On the bird shot, it does improve the subject (eg feather detail), but also seems to increase the noise in the bokeh/background.

I reckon to get the most out of it, you'd layer mask it so only the areas you want are affected. Need to be selective. Perhaps look into edge masking techniques etc.

Whatchya reckon?

TP it also works as a plug in in PS and others. Just select the boid and enhance!

Below is a small image of the full mosaic that the Trifid image was cropped from. At the scale of the crop on your screen the full image would be 4.7 metres wide!

Are you using the out of focus or motion blur enhancement?
