After many years of service to our family, ol' faithful, aka. Canon S900, bit the dust. We have had this printer now for seven years, had the original print head replaced under warranty, and used countless re-fillable cartridges. It sure did get a lot of work thrown at it, including albums upon albums of family photos printed out on it. However lately we started getting erroneous error messages and in the end we chose to upgrade to a .... Canon MP640.

Ran some test prints and it looks magic. Very happy with the print quality at 9600dpi x 2400dpi maximum colour printing compared to 1200x2400 for the S900. Certainly an improvement.

If you need "idiot-proof" software the supplied Canon software is real easy to use.

Now what to do with the old printer??? Stripping it down on the workbench might fill in a Saturday arvo... ;)

p.s. I've never seen so much blatent over-packaging in an electronics product. Bags, plastic protective films, foam and cardboard packaging. Thankfully most of it is recyclable.

All that packaging is to make you think you've bought more than you actually have:):P

Yeah, there is more leftover packaging in the recycle bin than the volume of the printer. I'm looking at sitting on the desk. I feel so inadequate

I had a canon S9000 for years. The only thing that ended up stopping it was a lightning strike that hit (and killed) a huge tree in my neighbour's yard. It killed a motherboard, the S9000 and a scanner. Nice printer in its day, and very re-inking friendly.

I'm so glad you said that :D

Not enough people do this.
