I managed to capture a couple of hours of OIII to add to the 2 hrs of Ha I had already captured.

I combined it using a synthesised Green channel of 60% OIII.
I need to capture some RGB for the stars but again the cloud has blown in so it might have to wait a while.

This combination is (Ha Ha OIII 60% OIII 100%) as LRGB.

Captured with Atik 11002M and Baader NB filters.

Comments welcomed.

There certainly is a lot more to this region than meets the eye...or the telescope for that matter. Great job on showing the areas outside what most of us focus on Doug.

Very contrasty Doug, perhaps a little red weighted?

Very red weighted, but it makes for a more dramatic piccie :)

Actually, Doug, I like what NB does for stars. RGB tends to make them too bloated and colourful when they really should look like what you have there..."salt n pepper" like with a just a few of the really bright ones showing a bit of colour. Remember, the light you see from any star is mostly white, no matter what spectral class they are.

A very vivid image, I like it. Your best work so far. One of a stream of many to come with this wonderful new setup you have. Your work has taken a big step upwards.

Holy crap, Doug.

That is sensational!

One suggestion, if I may? Just a touch little sharpening in the dark nebulae within M8 and M20? Just a touch of softening might help to even out the otherwise magnificent composition.

I love it!

I agree with Greg, this is your best work so far and certainly shows you're on a winner with this new camera. Looking forward to the final image.

Very striking, almost dangerous looking with the vivid reds.
Good FOV & I think the stars are fine as is, nice work Doug.

Looks like a giant footprint with a few toes missing...wonder if he's been playing with fireworks?

Striking how even the faintest Ha stands out against the background, an advqntage over a OSC for sure

Brilliant Doug. Certainly your very best :thumbsup::thumbsup:

We agree with other comments that it's a little oversaturated the red maybe needs desaturation by about 10. But this is just a suggestion not a big issue.

Once again superb image and can't wait for your next subject.

We're very envious of your super duper camera ;);)

PS - Just checked out the full res amaaaaaaaaaaazing detail :eyepop:

Amazing work Doug. And I gather from what you say this is a "quick' combination of what data you so far have.....:eyepop:

:eyepop: Saturated to the max. Bit too sweet to my taste but great details nonetheless. Top work. I like the way this is going though. Any Sii soon?

Thanks Marc, I had no real intentions of making this a true HST or CFHT NB image, I started it with the intention of just capturing some Ha to use as a lum layer but being to lazy to change the filters over I continued with the OIII. I am happy with the end result this time and will probably leave it as is.
As usual work is getting in the way of dark sky imaging with an interstate trip to Adelaide for the next week and a half. No room for a scope let alone the mount. Be back in time for the moon coming up again. Maybe even some SII when I get back. See what happens.

Here is a version with the colour wiped back a bit to make the image not quite a eye popping.

Thanks Frank Lots to learn but it is getting easier.

The large version does add to the effect and can make a nice image look very good but a bad one look very bad to.
Thanks Fred
