sola filter

Just arrived, a new sola filter.
Very happy with it, even seen my first sun spots.(after realising that they were not smuches on my lense??)
Is it possible to use filters that will alow me to see sola flares and other activites?

Yes. They are called Hydrogen Alpha (Ha) solar filters or complete Ha telescopes and they cost a lot more. The have a very narrow bandwitdh and typically require an f30 system hence the reduced aperture offered for existing systems. Small refractors are best for use with these filters.

Note the smaller the bandwidtgh the more you will pay but the better the surface contrast. However flares will be brighter with say a 0.8A filter compared to a 0.5A filter. A 0.7A is a good compromise.

And they're worth every cent! Astronomy fixes unhindered by light pollution, full moons etc. And a constantly changing target. I'm starting to put the pennies aside to double stack my Lunt filter. Hmmm-mmmm.
