View Full Version here: : paul rini EPs
been looking at these for a while, paul rini of the good olde US of A makes what has been described as a premium EP at a extra low cost. apparently he uses ziess (is that the name) glass in the EP and fashions his own barrel etc...
they are pretty plain to look at but from what i have read work exceptionally well. @ less than $30US they seem too good...
anyone used one?

Good glass is not much good if it is not carefully matched, positioned, aligned, securely mounted, baffled etc etc. Good lenses are just one of many things you need to get a good eyepiece. How you can get the precise combination of lenses you would need for any half decent design from "surplus" is beyond me.
On the other hand, he's even got stuff for "imagery applications", so he must know what he's doing. :P

I use a 3x ED glass barlow that Paul sells on astromart for $12 USD. I'm no expert but the look thru the barlow looks good to me.

First reaction is that if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
On closer look, they are a simple design, not some super wide angle cheapies. And a quick search of cloudynights pops up a few positive comments... and nothing nasty. :confuse3:
So get a few, David! And tell us if they're good or crUMMy. :D

I've heard/read nothing but good reports on his EPs so far..
I might get a 26mm next year. :)
I'll let ya'll know what they are like :)
they sound like a mid-range EP at a low-range EP price. not flash but I'd say better than the run of the mill...
and thnx tom :)
