Hmm, I have spent some time on the Deepskystacker but have not yet worked out how to save images in any other format than a Tiff format that Photoshop 6, can't open?

Are you trying to open the Autosave file ? Not found anything other than DSS that will read that. Try selecting Save File As on the menu on the left side and save it as a tiff from there. PS 7 opens them OK as does Paintshop Pro 7.

Thanks, I should have mentioned I use XP.
I would love to have the use of PS 7, I do have the program, but need the serial number.
Thanks for the tip

But you have Photoshop 6 right? When you save the file in DSS, select a lower bit depth in the little drop down list. That should to it.

Ken, the autosave file will open in Photo Shop if you drag and drop it into the program.

Drag and drop the file onto the Photo Shop icon on your desktop.
It will open up automatically.

Credit where credit is due. Ponders showed me that one.

You can drag and drop any file on a program to open it.

For example: text files into Notepad, or Word documents onto Word, etc.

Yes, but for some strange reason, it's the only way I can get PS to open DSS autosave files.

Jeanette,

Have you tried this in Photoshop:

File -> Open, in the little filename bar, type *.* and it'll show you all files in that directory. Simply click on your autosave file and see if it loads.

drag and drop is quicker. :P
wow, haven't used wild cards with a puter for years H.

Oh, no doubt it's quicker! I was just interested to see if it'd load for you if you could see the file in the directory using wildcards. : )

I've always been able to see the file in the directory, but when I clicked on it I used to get an error message that CS3 didn't recognise the format.
Also right clicking the file and selecting "open with" would cause error messages.
But here's the weird thing, CS3 now opens autosave files no problems. LOLOL
Thanks for the suggesting trying it.:)
I wouldn't have found out otherwise.

OK, that's just plain wierd. : P

Glad it's working now, though!

Maybe I picked up a plug in from somewhere??
But honestly, PS would NOT open these files before. LOLOL

I can open some of my old autosave files but I can't adjust them. They are 32bit tif files and photoshop only likes 16bit tifs so it has curves etc greyed out on the menus.

Just go to Image|Mode and change from 32bit to 16 bit and then curves and levels are there to use.

Exactly the same issue here on my main computer. I can open autosaved DSS tiffs I can even copy & paste from DSS to CS2. But I cannot open saved as DSS tiff of any format with CS2, I get error messages.

It appears only a few others on the DSS (& CN) forum(s) have the same issue but there is no fix.

I have tried many DSS versions & re-installs...nada. But...it all works fine on my lappy..go figure!

This all happened when I un-installed DSS & installed a new version...months back.
