I've been processing AVIs most of the day & managed to pull this one out of the hat.

I took enough video to fill the laptop & I still have at least another 2 gig to have a look at.

The seeing was 4/10 until about 3.30-4am & suddenly went to 9/10 which is when I started capturing Saturn. By 4.45 I would have given it a 10/10 but I'd already filled the lappy by then.

My apologies for the non-natural colour but it's the best I can do with the refractor. I did muck with the colours on this though to get rid of the green rings. I'm impressed with the detail I got. (I went slightly over-board on the waveletts in registax) Oh well.

I feel another great night coming on tonight, so I better get back to stacking.....Unfortunately I have to delete most of what I got last night to make room!

That lovely, nice and smooth and crisp.

Are you having moisture prob's too? I'm finding I'm having to rgb nudge to get
the colours aligned. Or the blue channel seems to be out of whack with red
and greed. Aaaaargh the pits of a one shot colour camera...

I'm waiting up for Saturn too, she's cleared the horizon just got to clear the
trees lol plus a few more degrees of altitude as well.

Good Luck!

regards,CS

No Rob no moisture problems, just achromatic refractor problems! :)

Yer an inspiration dude! Luv yer work... it was rather nice in Adel. @ 3.30am last night. I'm thinking that really early mornings is definitely going to be better for pix than late evenings. Shots like yours would make it worth the effort I reckon :)

Thanks for your comments too.:)

Kewl, that would be a great dark sky site fer sure. I was in Cummins one time years ago when I worked in BankSA (but it was Savings Bank of SA back then). Did a teller relief for a month. Nice place as I remember.

I've learned to love it here, great place.....dark skies? you better believe it!

I'm honking by the way, dig cheeses!! :)

And thanks Beren.

This one is the original straight out of registax with no processing except cropping & resizing. This is the 'true' colour an achro refractor does for saturn, which is why I usually fiddle with the colours before posting.

I'm going to have a good old 'tweaking session' this morning on the toucam to see if I can get more natural colours. :confuse3:

Asisaturn, The one at the top of the thread is Great!!!! I can see Cassinis Division all the way round! Fantastico Splendido!

The crepe ring is there also, but after uploading to the site, it's gone. Thanks Ken!

John, if you focus a bit crisper you will be able to capture the strings that hold the rings up in space

Sorry, I'm in one of those silly moods tonight. I need to go to bed and get some sleep!

asimov

No you don't!! You need to wait up fer saturn & get that dobbie & toUcam on her! do it, do it!! Or is it not clear there??

asimov
10-12-2005, 02:17 AM
BTW I specially blackened the strings out in photoshop, just in case someone noticed! NAAA!....It's actually a poster hanging on my wall taken by the hubble & I took a snap of it with the kodak! SPRUNGGG!

ballaratdragons
10-12-2005, 02:25 AM
I got 10/10 cloud and 10/10 untransparency!

I thought I recognised that poster. That's the pic I took and sent to NASA but they made it look worse than the original when they posterised it. In the original I took you can see the hooks on the end of the strings! And the bloke hooking them on!! Serious! :o

these are great saturn pics mate, well done!! i reckon August 13th 2006 is when you will have finally dusted off the eyepieces and started to look thru the scope again.

no more asigrumples, it is asierect!!!! micki must love the good seeing and toucam happiness as well!

asimov
10-12-2005, 04:15 AM
Uuummm.....Why August 13th?? & thanks! It certainly keeps me out of Micki's hair during the day! She loves my saturns, she kept raving about my latest efforts all day today, & she's not really into astronomy at all..:) Made her eyes pop when I resampled at 2.5X today & got her to stand back a few metres from the lappy! he-he!

davidpretorius
10-12-2005, 04:21 AM
just made the date after jupiters opposition in may i think???

i thought there would be a few months of re processing and then a yearning for an eyepiece!!!

we had some friends over of lisa and their husbands for dinner (pizza). here is lisa dragging everyone out to try and chase the moon thru the clouds thru my scope. she must be a closet astronomer!!

asimov
10-12-2005, 04:28 AM
Cool! It's a great feeling when the beloved shows some interest! But not to forget to show some interest in what their doing also.

Yeah, perhaps the re-sampling may get old.....but in my 'spare time' I'm resampling my mars & kodak pics on the main puter at the same time!! Hooked, or what!??

I'm being booted....the bigpond 10 hr thing & it's time for saturn anyway.....I'll catch you up tomorrow! Happy dobby drilling/cutting!!

c'mon Asi, it's really a Tak 150 or Astrophysics Starfire 6 you're using isn't it :wink2:

a beautiful image by any standards and with any gear :)

BTW you guys are lucky to get any family interest, I don't eben get "that'snice dear" anymore and the kids just groan and roll their eyes at anything to do with telescopes - except they do quite like going to play with "muffy" a little maltes who lives at Sirius Optics...:P

Here's my wifes (Micki) attempt at reprocessing saturn. Found it on my desktop this morning. Nice job honey!!! :scared: :prey2:

I have NO idea how she got the rings close to natural colour!

Robert_T
11-12-2005, 06:19 PM
that's brilliant! how lucky you are to have a wife that not only looks at your images, but improves upon them (my wife's eyes just glaze over at any mention of astronomy..unless I'm talking spending money in which case they more blaze than glaze).

what a team:)

Nice picture of the laptop! Was that stacked 500 times, deconvoluted...
Bet the seeing & transparency in the room was 10/10! Nice natural color!

Did your wife take that one too?

asimov
12-12-2005, 04:33 AM
Actually it was only 2 images stacked & some quite heavy wavelett work Stu!:P
