I am probably going to get a hiding for this, but I feel honour bound to report on my experience dealing with theastroguy.

In short, his service is absolutely excellent. I can be a difficult customer, I am the first to admit but Shane's patience and willingness to make sure I was happy was just astounding. I have never, ever been as satisfied with a retailer in the astro game.

I bought an Atik 314E recently and when some minor problems arose in getting it over from the UK, he updated me sometimes three times a day with what was going on and even wrangled me a free t-shirt from Atik for my troubles.

Then when I was have difficulty operating the camera (because I didn't read the manual :ashamed:), I emailed him and he called back at 9:30 on Saturday night!!

I don't have any affiliation with theastroguy other than my recent purchase.

Nothing to get a hiding about, because you are giving an account of your experience. Likewise I have had all positive experiences from the astro guy. Just goes to show, that people give credit where credit's due. :)

I got the OSC, and it is a pretty good match with my FS60. A little undersampled (~2.8 arcsec/ pixel), but the three nights the weather, dog, kids and laziness has allowed me a couple of hours have resulted in some good shots.

The supplied RGB utility is a little rough on the raw frames (see my First (Real) DSO image thread), but if you allow deep sky stacker to do the debayering, it makes a huge difference. Also, reading the manual makes a huge difference too:rofl:

Attached is my Carinae taken a couple of weeks ago. It is 80x90sec frames on an unguided p2Z at the native FS60 355mm focal length. The focus could have been better and I couldn't use my flats(taken with a t-shirt, but now I have one of Peter's (exfso) lightboxes, and there have been marked improvements every time I go out.

I think this camera will last me a while. Although, that can be famous last words with me. I have a combination of upgrade fever and a love/hate relationship with this hobby.

So three bad nights in a row or a cooled 8MP camera with 3 micron pixels could see it in the IIS classifieds yet :lol::lol:
