I have just purchased some Corsair XMS2 2x 2GB PC6400 DDR2 (800Mhz) Memory. A matched pair.

I currently have 2GB of DDR2 (400Mhz) memory in my machine.

Question. Would you;

a) Install the 4GB in the second set of slots and get 6GB but running at 400MHz (The memory speed takes the lowest speed and makes it all run at that speed)

or

b) Install the 4GB...removing the memory so that it runs at 800 MHz.

And, Yes...I have Windows 7 64bit.

Thanks.

I'd go for the 4GB of memory at 800MHz. The advantage of having 6MB of RAM, unless you are doing some incredibly memory demanding processes, IMHO, would be minimal if any. 4GB is plenty.

I agree 4GB at 800Mhz is the way to go you would be lucky to use all the 6GB and without it you have double the speed.

The existing memory was DDR2 800. So I have 6 Gb now.
