My 4 yr old laptop is dying a slow death, so looking at getting a new one.
How does this one look -

http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/laptop_special_deals?c=au&l=en&s=dhs&cs=audhs1&~ck=mn

the first one for $799.
Like the 4GB RAM, and 500GB harddrive, and the cost
Dells seem to get good reviews here.
What do you think?

I bought one a six weeks ago and within one week the a/c adapter needed replacing - the system wasn't recognising it and would not charge the laptop. Apart from that it's been fine but I still think HP or Toshiba satellite are a better unit

Dell's are good.

We have a few differing lappys at home and purchased an Inspiron around 4 month ago. Nice lappy. But try to get an i3 CPU at minimum not the older T series CPUs.

Also look for Dell discount coupon codes over at whirlpool (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1198723&p=31). It's common to get a 5%-10% (and even 15% or more) discount coupon codes which saves you mulla!

Also search the internet for these codes.:D

Well, did the deed, and bought an Acer Aspire 5741 - lots of goodies, and a new i5 Intel processor, so hope OK. Got from Dick Smiths for under $1000, and included Microsoft Office CD. :)
Set it up yday with no problems, except it hasnt got Outlook Express which has been phased out, and seems Windows Live is the new thing. Dont like it though. Liked having my mail there all the time without having to get on the net and logging in.
Will keep checking it out, as maybe something I am missing.
