what is going on??
First Haiti, Chile, Tornado in Oz, Mexico, then CHINA!!!
Why is this happening??
Armageddon??;)

Just normal processes at work.

Not if you ask "Mr Albert Viar",:lol::lol:.
Nothing new all this activity. Only difference is media driven paranoia.
Dont look into it too much, we are just doomed :eyepop:

I agree. Nothing new at all. More population and more connectivity through technology=more reports of these normal activities.
People just need more education to build where it is safe.
Just look at the populations around active volcanoes. Would you live at the foot of Vesuvius?
At least with a cyclone you can build a shelter that WILL stand up to it.
Just my thoughts on it all.
Cheers,
Duncan:question:
Funny, had the same thought as well and was wondering if there will be even something bigger in the pipeline:shrug:.
I hope not, but that's mother nature for ya.
It must be Indonesia's turn or somewhere in the south east asia region.
But then again maybe that volcanoe in Italy.....or Turkey....Turkey always seems to cop it....

Yellowstone National Park is one Super Volcano that comes too mind.
One in Indonesia as well Lake Toba.
If one of these babies goes off we will all know about it.
I follow this site for Earthquakes
http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/
And this one for Volcanic activity

Man, I really don't want of the big sucker volcanoes to blow now. I just finished my new dob. I don't need all that ash and crap to get in the way. Will soil my shiny big mirror too.

The active nature of Earth is a big part of why it is habitable. We just have to learn to deal with it better.

People have lived around volcanoes for thousands of years because the soil is highly productive.
In the dawn times of agriculture those who lived there prospered. Today's cities like Naples grew out of that.

Albert Viar is a freaking wierdo.
I will now be extra alert for earthquakes, Tsunamis, Niburu and Tornadoes just incase one of these things decideds to kill me, in all likelyhood of 0.000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000001% in the next 978 trillion years.,
oh, and btw Yellowstone, my SDM is almost done, please hold on to your load for the next several bazillion centuries if possible. Thanks.

You forgot a couple of things....nuclear war, nanotech grey goo, alien invasion, ebola, sudden ice age, runaway greenhouse, sublimation of the world's entire methane clathrate deposits, judgment day, asteroid impact, planetary collisions, sun going supernova etc etc etc :):P

Its cuz we're sucking all the oil out of the earth. The oil was a natural lubricant that allowed techtonic plates to move smoothly across each other. Now its all gone or going, the friction has increased so when they do let go, they do so with increased force. Its mathematically proven fact.
Either that or its the birth-pangs of the dark one as he is re-born into a world ripe for the harvesting of souls!
One of the two anyway.
I subscribe to the USGS earthquake alerts by email. I set the filter to email anything magnitude 5.0 or larger.
I would reckon that I receive at least 5 alerts a day, all perfectly natural processes in my mind.

Hi Tony, Hi All, :)
Hmmm! I just had to check out a site that intrigued me.
Are there any geologists among us? I just can't believe that what I saw can have any credibility. If it does then Mr A. is right we're all doomed.
Don't get me wrong, I would simply like to see comments by someone who has more geological knowledge than I have. I don't want this to become a religous criticism.:D
Looking forward to sharing your knowledgable comments.

Hi All,
Just watched that video,4000degrees c. I cant think of anything natural that could be responsable. Just looked like rock to me.
I don't know so i'll keep an open mind.

Am very curious to hear your conclusions.

Why ? It's New Moon. There is a moderate correlation between earthquakes and new moon/full moon.

Molten core, strong magnetic field, plate tectonics, volcanism, carbon cycle - without them we would not be here. Be grateful. :)

I didn't realise how "alive" our planet is until I stood on the rim of a caldera and looked down into the heart of an active volcano. You can hear it, feel it reverberating through your body, it's like a heart beat, a regular choooof choooof BOOM!
We are merely life forms populating a living planet.
"Natural disasters" are all a part of it. They've been occurring since day one.
Where you live determines how many of these you experience.
But with todays technology we experience so many more... vicariously.
There's nothing supernatural to be read into it.
It's all part of the natural processes that allow us to live here.

Tch!
Now Iceland's in on the act. Grounding air traffic all over northern Europe and creating a toxic cloud around the island.
What they won't do to hang on to their Codfish!!

When you have no clue at what you're looking at because you know nothing of geology (or very little, at least), you see what you want to see and believe in. It's a load of hogwash.
You have to remember that the Bible is nothing more than a collection of parables, stories and allegorical history. For the most part, putting a straight fact (except after the fact of finding them) onto anything said within the book is rather spurious. Yes, it does mention historical events but that's hardly surprising, given the nature of who wrote the book and when they were written. However, that doesn't make it an accurate depiction of the history within it. Nor does it give accurate dates and such for these events. It's contextual, not factual.
What you have there is halite, gypsum and other saline deposits intermixed with clay and sandy sediments. Those "walls" and such are nothing more than eroded lake bed sediments. Actually, they're most likely stranded shoreline deposits that have been laid down in the Dead Sea and then when it evaporated or when earth movements uplifted the sides of the rift the lake sits in, left them high and dry. These deposits are laid down repeatedly over time and you see layer after layer of old shorelines built up along the periphery of the lake. You can see examples of this all over the area. I've seen similar stranded shorelines and shallow water sediments myself, out here in dry lakes. The crumbly texture of the deposits is classic...they have very little water in them and when they dry out, they go like powder. In these types of lakes which also happen to be associated with rift valley systems, like the Dead Sea is, you can also get hydrocarbon deposits....oil, tar and such, within the sediments. Most of these turn out to have a high sulphur content within the hydrocarbons. You can also get hydrothermal activity and the occasional spurt of volcanism, especially where hot rocks are close to the surface (within 2-4kms). This can also bring up saline waters and minerals which get mixed in with the clays and mud of the lakes.
The occasional volcanic event could have also frightened and bamboozled the people in the area at the time, considering pretty much all of them had never seen a volcano or an eruption...whole generations would have never had that experience. If there were cities/towns on the coastline of the lake, say on the lakeshore flats...and there is evidence that there may have been, any number of natural events could have written them off. A large earthquake or volcanic event could've cause the cities/towns to slip into the lake via liquifaction of the sediments the city/town sat on and an eruption may have partially buried the city.
But what we have in this video is not a city/town by any stretch of the imagination (and I have a pretty good imagination!!!)
Hi Marty
I don't want to offend anyones religious beliefs but Carl has pretty much summed it up in a nutshell.
A look at the plate tectonics of the region show up some major rifts and convergences of the plates any of which could easily flatten an area given the right conditions and still do to this day.
Hi Wavytone,
There is some interesting reading here in regard to the earthquake/full moon correlation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Wikinaut/Moon-Earthquake-Theory
Personally I'm yet to be convinced.
cheers

Hi Carl, Hi Ric, :)
Thankyou for that. I am definitely not a religous person. I can understand what you have said in your replies and totally agree with your views. This had a danger of blowing out and I thank you for your discretion.
I had ambitions to become a geologist as a youngster but went into electrronics.:D
On a lighter note: jjj and others, that Earth heart beat. Yes you could be lead to believe that it is alive. Is it possible that its an unrecognised life form????? ;)
" Its life Jim! But not as we know it." Apologies if the quote is not accurate.
Cheers Marty
