I shall ask all you experts as I don't have a clue!

My new lappy has a screen resolution of 800 x 600 and I can't see all of the IceInSpace site. You know the old problem: Some of the page is off screen on the right hand side.I have gone into the place were you change resolution but it won't change. It did the other day when I tried! I put it back on 800 x 600 but now it won't go any other size???

Is there a way I can see the whole page or am I stuck at this 3/4 of a page problem? or have I done something wrong and It can be fixed? :confuse3:

Depends on the lap top Ken...

Just right click on the screen anywhere and go to properties then settings...and see what the highest rez you can do...if it is an older laptop I would say that 800 x 600 is max....just try it.

Tony, what was that trick to post the page I have open so I can show you what is says on the screen?

800x600 is pretty small by today's standards but I too have a laptop with that size screen. I think the minimum width of the posts column is fixed at around 720 pixels, so in ordinary browsers it cannot be reduced.

Best thing would be to post a msg on the website suggestions thread to ask for fractional, instead of fixed, column widths on all iceinspace pages. That is how it used to be with the original site (Jan 2005), when the avatars were in a column of their own to the left of the posts.

Steve, Mike took a vote in poll and most people wanted him to change to this fixed size. I don't think my one request is going to get that reversed. I can always go back to the desktop Pooter if I was really stressing over it.

But the main problem I have is that I changed the resolution up and down just the other day, but now it won't change! Was wondering if anyone knows what I did wrong and how to fix it.

My desk top puter did that a couple of years ago come to think of it!? (changed to 1024x768) & stuffed if I could change it back again.....from memory I had some sort of 'snow-ball-98SE-effect' & it crashed, ended up reformatting.

Computers are still a mystery to me at times!

hold down "shift" and then press "Prnt Scrn" key and then paste into photoshop and then save as a jpg that is under 150k and post it.

we can have a look then.

Davo, I held down Shift and pressed Print screen but nothing happened! Plus, I don't have Photshop in this lappy.

Never mind, I'll just put up with it.

sorry, by pressing shift and prnt scrn, it copies the screen and then when you are in photoshop or other imaging software, if you then paste, the copied screen shot pastes.

as you say, you do not have ps on the lappie, bugga

Ummm you dont need any photo software to do that if you have Microsoft Word it will work...

It wont look like its done anything once you have done a shift print screen, this just puts that screen shot in the clip board. Then open word and then click in the screen to get a cursor and hit cntrl v this will past the image into word.

As for your problem right click on desk top screen and hit properties, select settings, once in settings select advanced. In advanced select the check box "apply new settings without restarting". Hit OK, this will take you back to settings screen look at color quality, it should be at 32 bit or 24 bit. If the screen resoultion slider is all the way to the right its at its highest setting.

Try doing a Video card driver update select from the internet as the source as this will select only compatible drivers for you.

If you get stuck feel free to PM me and I can talk you through it further somehow...

:D

I am new to the Telescope hobby but an old hand at computors lol

Hope this helps

I donno what to make of Asimov's last post, Ken. Did it work or not?

GIMP from www.gimp.org will take screenshots. (you just need to download gtk + gimp for windows and install in that order)

To cut a long story short Steve I wasn't able (lack of knowledge) to do screen shots. All of a sudden with Dave P's invaluable info above I tried it & it worked! I got a wee bit excited & posted that screen shot above. :o

From the stats, 10% of visitors are using 800x600, while the other 90% are using 1024x768 or higher resolution.

I would expect that if you're running 800x600, you should get scrollbars at the bottom of the page to see all of the posts. Is that not the case?

I'll change my desktop resolution and do some testing.

Yes Mike, you certainly do get a lil' scroll bar down the bottom....one has to scroll 1.75" to the right....no biggie (for me)

G'day Dave! :nerd: :P

XP also comes with something called Paint. Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Paint

You can CTRL-V (Paste) your pic in there, go save it as a JPG then post it that way too. I've found Paint just as effective for saving images.. without requring to load up things like PSP.
