You made a pigs ear into a silk opbservatory Mike. I like the enlarged pics. Looks better than the bought one! Now I can submit the remote focus and HBX control plus a few of the moon pics.:)

mmm, thats a nifty design Dennis, well done. Id be interested in your thoughts on the possibilty of automating the closeing of the roof segments, if thats possible.

I had thought of building the observatory on wheels but then I'd need power to propel it. Next thought was on a very tall pole to be above the trees that block my view, but I'm too old to climb the ladder so I'd need an escalator. It all became far too difficult and I settled on the submitted design and I can assure you Fred at 83 years I can open and close the roof sections with ease.

Great observatory. This is really motivating. I had a 4x4 spare block in the backyard, damn if I hadn't built that gazebo on top of it.

Dennis - love the design of the flaps! I've been looking for a way to construct something similar without roll off based on 5 sided summerhouse. Do you have details of the seals / weatherproofing for the sides of the flaps? Cheers, Les.
