View Full Version here: : How dose one do live massages to others
Hi Guys, I just need some advice on using a web cam which can be used in sending live vision to another computer.
Alice and I are in the process of planning our long trip away to see this great country, and we thought it might be a great idea to be able to communicate at times with our young grand children.
So how dose one do this, do I have to buy a web cam for my computer and then one as well for the computer that will be receiving our live messages.
I have never done this before  so would appreciate any help out there.
Thank You.
Leon

A live massage? Try Kings Cross :)
For video calls, most people use Skype, it's free and works well. Quality of the calls depends on the speed of your Internet connection. You will need a webcam to see, most laptops have them built in these days, you'll need a microphone to speak, normally built into the web cam, and speakers to hear.
Download skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en/welcomeback/), it's free, have a read of the help and try it out.

Many Thanks Guys, just loaded Skype and it explains a lot and seems very easy to use.

Hi Leon,
The other alternative is to just you MSN live with a hotmail account. It's free and easy to setup.
Any webcam will do eg, Logitech etc $30-$50, I think Hardly Normal havde a Microsoft one for sale for around $15 or $18 atm.
Once msn is setup its just a matter of initiating the video call and waiting for the other party to accept. Admittedly they need to be online to know your trying to make a connection, but if you set a time say 7pm each night then they can be logged into MSN waiting.
That's my 3 cents worth:)

Just as a heads up, google MSN Hacks (http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&source=hp&q=msn+live+hacks&meta=&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=18a51b3ed23f0245) and you get hundreds of links on how to hack into someone elses MSN account. Now google skype hacks (http://www.google.com.au/#hl=en&source=hp&q=skype+hacks&meta=&aq=f&aqi=g10&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&fp=18a51b3ed23f0245) and you'll find links to enhancing your skype setup. I know which one I'd be using :)

+1 for Skype. Use it all the time to keep in touch with my brother in Sydney and watching my newborn niece growing up. Wonderful technology, and free.

Skype is fabulous - I use it occasionally to talk to video chat with friends O/S, or to say goodnight to my girls (4 & 2) when I'm working late.
Just don't leave it running in the background unless you actually want to use it. It is free because it uses other people's computers and internet connections as a means to hop your call around the net.
Cheers
