Well, I'm off to yet another job interview. This time as a farm-hand. Standard farm-hand wages with a 4 bedroom brick house/work-ute/meat/etc chucked in. If I get it that means I'll be moving from my current place of abode in the small town of Cummins SA to 'up further north' out in the middle of nowhere.....& THAT means even darker skies!!
I need a break here, been unemployed for close on 7 mths.
Here's hoping & touch wood etc etc!
The guy wanted me to just fax my resume etc to him but I sugested I drive the 1 hour or so to his place so he could 'check me out' in person....(& vice-versa);)
Another interview as supervisor of yet another tuna processing factory next week if I fail with the farm-hand.

I hope either one comes through for you soon!
Yeah John hope it works out for you.
And even darker skies huh, sounds too good.
:)
Good luck Asi...
Surely ... the law of averages suggests that with every job you apply for ... you're getting closer to landing one of 'em????
Maybe this is the one, matey. I hope so.:)

Hi & thanks guys. I'm hoping for this farm job! Sounds good & I've done it before. The tuna processing job is in Port Lincoln (25-30000 people....my home town) I have NO intention of living there again...I'd rather drive the 130 km round trip each day If I land that job.

I'm back from the interview & quite frankly, I think I did ok (so does my wife whom I took with me to the interview). He seemed pretty impressed with my qualifications & was talking like I already had the job..but like he said, "It doesn't really matter what your qualifications are, I'm looking for a person with the right attitude"..hopefully I presented that to him. The bloke & his wife were very nice folk & I look forward to working for them. He has 2 more guys to interview & I guess the best man will win. Now it's time to play the waiting game.

Onya Asifarmer,
When will you be notified that you got the Farm Hand job? Have you started packing yet?
Get ready to start coz he will be also impressed by the fact that you drove all the way to see him!!!

Yes, I'm sure he appreciated that small gesture. I still prefer the old fashioned method of looking for work. I get out there, right in their face asking the question "got any work mister??" I found out about this job thru the bush telegraph here Ken which I'm sure you know all about in your area also. Word of mouth in a small community travels faster than light!!

Oh....about 2 weeks he said before he makes a decision.

Yes I did actually!! :) His reaction was "well there's no street lights for 56.5kms John!!"
If I land the job, I may have a new recruit!!

Haha! Take a drive out and sign him up in here. The we all can tell him what a great bloke you are!!!!

LOL! I'm not sure if he's on the internet. At least he didn't give me that "the lights are on but nobody's home" blank stare I usually get when I mention the word "telescope" :)
I got that look today at a computer store in Port Lincoln from the owner when I told him how I take astro-photo's! :nerd: And an even blanker look when I pointed to a webcam he had forsale & I said "yes, I use a webcam similar to that one!"

*sigh* It's been over a month now, & this guy has not called me to let me know 'yay or nay' if I got the job or not! (he promised he would, & I'll hold him to it...if your not going to do it, don't say it!!)
I also told him I was on the internet a LOT & to leave a message & I'll call him back.
I assume someone else got the job. I will not be calling him to find out, stuff it!
What do I have to do to earn a living!????

i would give him a call, can't hurt and you have nothing to lose.
"gudday, i was just seeing if you have had a chance to fill that position yet?"
worst case scenario----> "you have, not a problem, thanks for the opportunity"
you have not lost face, if anything you will gain confidence for the next one interview.
bad news can be turned from being getting you down to a confidence builder by meeting head on.
works for me!!!
chin up and i am going to whip your ass off the planet tonight with a ripper saturn!!!!
asimov
04-01-2006, 11:04 PM
Nope! I have my pride! He can call as promised or go to you know where!!
If you whip my ass with a ripper saturn I'll bend over to make it easier for ya!! In other words I hope you do mate!
