Hi all,
Got them at a garage sale, with an old scope, i know they are 10mm and 25 mm plossl cos it says that on them. just wondering if anyone knew which brand etc.
That slightly worn green lettering is the only markings on them.
Many thanks
Steve

Early "smooth-side" Televues (Plossls) at a guess.

I agree with Gary, early Plössls. That green text is unmistakable.

Just out of interest, how much did the guy sell them to you for?

Just to sate your curiosity I got a york 4" reflector on some kind of equatorial mount/tripod, with the two eyepieces for $55....
But the primary mirror is not in good condition, and the whole thing was filthy, It must have been stored in a barn, but it's ok now its clean...its good for the kids and I will use the eyepieces..and I wanted to learn how to use the equatorial mount.

I concur. These are likely Chinese clones as the 25 & 10mm are currently standard eyepieces bundled with almost all Chinese telescopes of recent times.

Early Tele Vue Plossls were not offered in 25 & 10mm but 26 & 10.5mm and the green lettering will not easily flake off as it was embossed. Tele Vue (R) should also be on the eyepiece. It will say TELE VUE(R) 10.5MM PLoSSL. There were no eyecups offered with the early Tele Vue but generic rubber cups could have been added.

The shade of green on these looks a little light and faded too. Look through them and see if the field stop is nice and sharp. If it is not they are not well built whatever the make.

thanks for the replies guys,
I have yet to look through them and compare them, I am a beginner and contemplating upgrading my bintel standard plossls, but then i came across these and thought I should find out what they are before I spend anymore money.
When I get chance I will compare them to what I have, what is "field stop"? is that clarity at the edge of the field of view?
Many thanks again to all who have replied..
Cheers

You could always take them by BINTEL, I bet they would be able to tell you if they were early TV or not...

Steve, if you look through an eyepiece against a moderately bright background (but definitely, NOT the SUN!) you will see the internal 'circle' (aperture) of the eyepiece - this is the 'field stop' Astro744 referred to... If the edge of the circle is sharp and uniform all the way around, chances are the eyepiece will be of reasonable quality... Regards, Andy
