Combining binned images?

When you do LRGB imaging, and you bin your RGB images, how do you get around the size difference in Photoshop to combine your L data with the RGB data, given that 2x binned is half the size of the L data?:shrug:

I would imagine that you would resize your RGB data by 200%.

If the image is only half the size wouldn't you make it 100% larger?

Doing that is unlikely to be required in PS isnt it ?.

Taking seperate LRGB images means they all need to be aligned, which is normally done in a stacking astro app, which automatically resizes the images to the same size. Then the same-size aligned images are taken to PS.

If you are resizing in PS, presumably the LRGB images are un-aligned, are you then aligning in PS?. Thats difficult, and not usual proceedure.

In a word.....Registar. That's what it does, aligns (registers) images. Its great for images taken using different equipment or different binning

Yeah, but they all do it, even the freebies, binned RGB is common. Whatever app your useing for calibration etc already, would also stack/align binned/non binned subs and resize?.

I'm totally new to binning. :eyepop:I have never done it before.;) Normally I would stack my frames then use MaxIm to align them to assemble them in PS. Or get MaxIm to do it all, depends on how well MaxIm is working on the day or how I feel. I just wondered if I had to do something special with them in respect of their size. I know DSS recognizes binned images, but I don't think you can use it to stack your monochrome and create an LRGB image.
I'll do a 2 star manual align in MaxIm as a test run and see how it all goes. Thanks.:D

If you have maxim then it'll do it. I assumed you were only using PS and just wanted to align them. :doh:

Thanks for the prompt Paul . Im looking to align Mosaics (easily), so had a squiz at Registar for the 1st time, and tried it just now. Wow, one click and it aligns wildly different position/rotation/scale/binned subs, most impressive.:thumbsup:

OK, ive had a look. Thanks for the heads up H, but a lot of manual work is required for Mosaics in IRIS.

CCD stack, DL et al are also all hard work for Mosiacs, they are not designed specifically for them . Registar is made just for aligning, and it does it insanely well, literally one click auto, no manual input what so ever. It also has some other tricky mosaic tools not available in other apps.

I've never tried doing mosaics. It's something I will look at doing in the future.

I was more concerned with the transformation and registration ability. I'm sure it can handle mosaics, just needs a bit of work, as you've mentioned.
