From what I remember the evaluation version was always due to expire in March, not necessarily 12 months from the date installed. Find a local OEM store, you can buy a legit copy of Win7 Professional (64) for around $200.

I might go home premium because you can get a 3 computer family pack for $237.00 AU they have them at OfficeWorks
When I downloaded it from the evaluation site it had the months as august for the 2 hourly shutdown and October as the expiry but that's life;)

Mine flashed up as having 11 days to go. Fortunately I bought Win7 Ultimate from my workplace for $25 yes $25 full version.

Unfortunately no I work for the guvmint and this year they are restricting the 'Work at home scheme' that we buy our software through and will only allow 1 copy.

No problems thanks for letting me know. If I can find a linux that does my digital TV I wont need it but I am not having much luck getting it to recognise my TV card Suse linux sets it up but when the channels tune it doesn't find any.

Do you have any kids at UNI or Tafe?
If so they may be able to buy Windows 7 Professional (any edition..incl 32bit & 64bit...1 of each, $49 ea) or Office 2007 ultimate edition ($70).
See here (http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/itsnotcheating/default.aspx).
I'm pretty sure they are upgrade editions...but you many users have clean installed them no problems:D.

Pro has the XP virtualisation mode, I had a mate who bought home premium then had to buy Pro because he needed the XP virtual option. I think I remember seeing somewhere that the CPU has to support the virtualisation functions.

I usually use Virtual Box for VM's but to be honest I haven't had problems with software not running on Win7 the only issue I have is the Meade LPI being not recognised properly apparently there is a fix for this I just havent looked into it to deeply yet. And you are right about the Processor My computer and laptop both have this feature

Well I bit the bullet and formatted my HD after programs started crashing, eg IE and Skype and Messenger with a message that the program was not responding (coincidence that win7 Eval was coming to an end?). Installed Win7 and the rest of the software and then..... 550mb updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
