Hi Guys,

I'm pulling my hair out trying to get the QHY8 working with Maxim DL 5.
Any advice on how to get it working would be much appreciated.

Maxim tells me no camera was detected.
Camera 2 failed to open.
Could not initialize CCD Camera (3)
:confused2:

I've tried nearly every driver I could get my hands on, uninstalled numerous times, and reinstalled.
Im running Windows 7 x86

I can't even get it to work with Nebulosity now.
I've gone ahead and removed any trace of qhy files from windows/systems32 and windows/system32/drivers

A while since I had these woes, and my hair has even started to grow back.
Did you use the ASCOM driver, or the QHY drivers (from the site)?
If you bought it local, Theo has proven in the past to be the way to fix these, and even when they haven't been purchased locally.
There is also a Maxim plugin you will require, over and above the basic system driver.
Mine worked in Maxim, but drove me nuts crashing every time I went from 4x4 to 2x2 or 1x1 binning.

Hi Gary. I think this comes from a clash of drivers. On the CCDLabs site there is a link to download a drive removing tool. It's a link to Tom Van der whatsit's site if I remember rightly. I have them on another computer so if you can't find them, let me know and I should be able to send it to you. That removes all drivers for either QHY5 and/or QHY8. Do that and then reinstall ONLY one set of drivers and from memory again, I think the one to use is the standard one, not Tom van der whatsits.
Theo will know.

I tried installing just the QHY8 drivers from 'astrobesoft' was it?
It installed a QHY8 IO Drivers; but Nebulosity and Maxim failed to see the camera.

Im heading out to site tonight, so really wanna try get this sorted when I get home.
Might have to call Theo later on if he's available.

So has anyone had success at all with Maxim and the QHY8,; with all binning modes ? Hate to think I wasted money on this imaging program :(

If anyone can send me the drivers that they used, that worked, that would be much appreciated.

Have you even checked to see that Windows 7 is supported?

EDIT : I use Windows XP SP2, Maxim 5, and my QHY8 runs sweet as a nut

Did you install the WinUSB driver at any time? While setting up this qhy9 I've found that once you install the WinUSB type drivers you can't remove the code or settings they put into the system, even the uninstall tool will not remove them. I had to reinstall windows to drop back to native type drivers.

I would suggest you forge ahead and install ascom and ascom drivers for the qhy8. I'm having no problems with these ascom drivers and the qhy9 in either maxim 4 or 5. Trying to revert to native drivers after trying the WinUSB drivers gave me the same errors you are seeing.

I am running Windows 7 32bit on my Astro Laptop.

Ascom? .. hmm
I'll talk to Theo and see what suggestions he may have as well.

If you read the qhy forums you'll see that they are moving all drivers for all cameras to ascom so it's easier for them.

Oh and the courier just delivered the bits for that PC, I'll check out that scsi card today :)

Yeah I read through the forums, but couldnt make much sense of it all.
I think I tried Ascom and it didnt work either.
I'll check in a few hrs when I get home.

Oh; and good stuff.. the card 'should' work.

The best I have found to run the QHY range is the Ascom drivers.
Look in the forum, near the bottom, "Software".

Find the 64 bit drivers and try to install this, it works with the 32 bit system also. Once the driver has been installed go to www.astrosoft.be and install the Ascom driver. Reboot your computer and with any luck it should all work. You will need the latest Ascom platform installed on your computer first.
