Hi Duncan,

QHY8 gave me good result in Ha. There are few more experienced guys who posted their narrowband pics with QHY8 in the forum time to time. are you after any particular information?

Basically you would just keep the appropriate channel for the used filter and discard the other channel/channels. For example if imaging with Ha after reduction you would only keep Red and discard green and blue. my approach is something like this

1. Image capture
2. Reduction as usual
3. Debayer and split each frame into Red, Blue, Green.
4. Only keep the channel appropriate
5. Register and Stack images
6. Follow rest of the processing steps as usual

Yep, can and does work, I used my QHY8 for some Ha stuff, with a Baader 7Nm filter.
As Sadia suggested and let me add, lots and lots of exposure. Think 15 - 20 - 30 minute shots.

i have heaps of examples on my flickr site, but its certainly very possible

i usually only split channels in photoshop after registering and stacking but maybe Sadia's technique is better

There is quite a good overview of a OCS vs Mono (including narrow band possibilities and limitations) written by Dr Dietmar Hager, a regular contributor to IIS and a great astroimager - see:
