New laptop running windows 7

see's my Netgear Wifi router but won't connect too it

internet works fine using cable

checked wifi adapter says working properly

Do you have your router set to only allow known MAC addresses to connect if so your new laptops MAC address wont be permitted to connect

Is the security the same as the router? You shouldn't use WEP. Use one of the WPA variants. PSK is the simplest to set up. Choose the strongest variant all your devices support. Use hard to guess keys. Plain text keys can be up to 63 characters, maybe a phrase you can remember.



The router will have a web page to set the configuration. Log on wired and hunt through the pages. That is also where the WEP/WPK security is set. I don't think much of MAC authentication. You can spoof a MAC address in seconds.

Guys justed needed a prompt to remember how too do this all fixed also pop up blocker was hiding the screen I was looking for

Yeah you can but I think in conjunction with other methods it can be useful. And it could stop anyone who is not a Hacker from getting access I use all security available to me.
