Hi,
Im planning on updating the firmware on my Eq6 hand controller. Apparently it is important to use the supplied Synscan hand controller to computer link cable which has a serial attachment at one end an RJ11 connector at the other.
Could someone confirm whether this is the same connector that is used between the hand controller and the mount for normal operation? I presume you just switch the cable across into the middle slot.
Thanks
David

Sadly Ive just realise that the centre slot RJ11 on the hand controller differs from the side slot.
Problem is Ive misplaced my cable for updating the software on the synscan hand controller. Cant find it anywhere.
Would one of the following cables do the job? A cable from dontronics is mentioned on the EQMOD site but not quite sure which one. Id prefer a RJ11 to USB as my laptop has no RS232.

I think you will have to get a USB to RS232 adaptor. then a cable that goes from RS232 to the mount connector.
I got my USB to RS232 adaptor from www.Wildcard-innovations.com.au (http://www.Wildcard-innovations.com.au)
It isn't cheap (about $55) but it WORKS on everything I have, unlike the el cheapo units available for $20 or so.

If you must use the SynScan controller then attached is the cable pinout that you're after in order to upgrade it's firmware, this is then coupled with a RS-232 to USB cable to your laptop.
Or you can ditch the hand controller and go the following options:
(a) EQ6<-->EQDIR_dongle<-->RS232-to-USB<-->Laptop with EQASCOM
(b) EQ6<-->TTL/232 USB<-->Laptop with EQASCOM
There's a bunch of threads already on the site with more details on EQDIR and EQASCOM that you can search on or you can PM me for more info
cheers

I'll be going with option A and agree the wildcard cable looks the shot (thanks Nev - didnt realise they sold them).
Adam - thanks for your offer to assist with any queries - if I cant get things up and running and have further queries I'll send you an email.
Heres hoping things all go smoothly.
Cheers
