I've decided to put my toe in the waters of AP. I am flogging some current gear to pay for it.
I am contemplating some sort of reflector-based astrograph (refractors are too much $$ ) along with a 70-80mm dual-purpose guidescope (WO, AT, used Tak?) and possibly a solar setup (PST? Lunt?)as well.
My friend abroad wants me to 'source' him a very specific refractor to replace one he smashed. Numerous alternatives exist, and he might have to settle.
But on which one? budget is mid - high 2's
This forum is filled with "Which telescope should I buy..." queries.
My question is this:
Is it actually more fun, or at least more satisfying, to HAVE to make a decision about what equipment to buy, rather than having enough dosh just to go out and get whatever you like?
I admit that another $5k wouldn't be a bad thing, but on the whole I find saving for, and deciding on, equipment based on that budget, quite fun.
The thrill of the chase so to speak.
You?
