MacBook Pro 12V power supply arrived

I ordered it 11/11/09 and it turned up today. Faster than I expected.

It's not cheap, because the "magsafe" connector is Apple proprietary so you have to pay for a new one of those, and they basically cut the cable and put plugs on it so you can run it off either 240V through the original power supply or you can run it through a 12V adapter. Will be testing it out this weekend, but the service has certainly been prompt and professional so far.

very keen to hear how you go. Did you send them an adapter from here for them to modify, or is this for the exclusive use on 12V?

I bought a new adapter through them. I wanted to keep the original because I'll leave it at the office permanently, and use the custom one from them for home and in the field.

The one I got has the magsafe plug on the end of a lead with a jack. The original Mac power supply has a matching jack, and there's also a 12V cigarette lighter power supply (which is white BTW so "suits" the Mac one) with matching jack. So you can plug the magsafe plug into either 240V or 12V, swap n go.

The first photo in the link above is the one, except white. I'll take some piccies and post results soon. Haven't actually tried it yet.

Tested it out on the weekend. Worked a treat. Chords are a bit short, though. That's the only thing. Might have to work out a 12V extension cable.

Mike - sorry mate. I replied to your post the other day but the send mustn't have completed coz the reply isn't showing.

I was saying that it wasn't cheap, but that's because I opted to get them to provide a new Mac power supply as well. I wanted a spare so can leave one at work. US$55 for the mod, but another US$80 for the new adapter and magsafe lead, or something like that.
