I've been following this for a while on the Yahoo ASCOM group (seriously do they need sometimes 60 e-mails a day?).

The s/w upgrades ASCOM 5a to 5.5. It may instal saying its Release Candidate 7 - but I believe its the final version.

Available from the main ASCOM website.

I haven'tchanged my ASCOM platform in 2 years (still 4.4 from memory) because everything I use just works fine with it. Is there any features or reason to upgrade?

Never upgrade if everything is working perfect :)
Do you need the upgrade? No!
Do you want to take the risk? No!

Why repair something when it isn't broken?

So there is no reason at all to upgrade :P

I don't know about that... :confuse3: Can it take pictures & guide and do all the rest for me while I chat with my mates? Then I'll upgrade ;)

I always keep historic software versions, and track the effort folk are putting in. Its been months in the making - so happy to update when the s/w is finally released.

Look at Windows 7 - who would have thought that Microsoft would finally get it so right?

There's arguments for and against upgrading software. If it's software that's been around a while and development might be a bit stagnant, and if it's stable, then I adopt the "it aint broke, don't fix it" adage. But software that's still on the way up, being actively developed with new features being regularly added, I say upgrade.

Take EQMod for example, those guys are very active and adding wonderful new features almost monthly. I upgrade every time. Sure there's the occasional bug, but they fix it almost immediately because they're so actively developing.
