Took ten exposures of 20 minutes last night and they all came out beautifully. A considerable time investment on a Saturday night.

I tried to stack them as normal last night in MaxIm. First I did a calibrate on them. The little hourglass popped up to show that it was doing it's thing. A few minutes later, a popup error message said one or more of the images could not be calibrated. I clicked on the ok, cancel button, went back to my folder to try again, only to find it is empty!:mad2:

I have done an image search of my hard drive, checked every file and even the recycle bin. They're gone.:mad2:

P***ED off.:mad2:

Maxim has crashed a few times for me, but i never lost any data.
Are you sure the data was not on a network type drive or removable device ?.

No, they were saved in my C: drive under my documents/etc/etc/ngc___/ etc

Is there any way to recover? I just can't find them. I even reopened MaxIM this afternoon and tried to open via the last time it was opened in the history list. There is a record of them being opened, but no files to go to. "Not found".

Looks like I might have to pray for another clear night and re-shoot the lot.

What format were the files in? You could try scanning with "testdisk" - it's free and very good. Not very easy to use.

you could try photorec (from the same guy):

it's much easier to use. What sort of image types were they? If they were Canon raws etc, photorec will find them. I'm not sure on .fit files though...

Try running scandisk, it may fix the errors left by not closing opened files correctly, etc.

Open your Recycle Bin and see if they are still there.

Thanks guys. I wouldn't have a clue how to instal and run any of that stuff. I may stuff up my system even more. David, I tried to download and run one of them, but i don't know what it is doing and I can't answer the questions it asks.

Vince, as I said before they are not in the recycle bin.

I tried to go for a system restore but that didn't work either.

I guess I will just have to re-shoot and hope it doesn't happen again.

Baz,

It might be prudent in future to just copy your original data before letting MaximDL having its way with them.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I lost 3 years worth of astrophotography raw data in a hard drive failure a while ago. So, I kind of know how you feel.

Humayun

THanks Humayun. I have a nice 1TB external HD now, so I will be using it.
