As I have had a fair amount of time on my hands for the past 6 months, some of my long term personal pet projects have started to mature to the point that I am willing to share them with others.

The first to get a public release is my own incarnation of an imaging calculator, similar in many respects to, but not intended to replace, CCD Calculator. I originally coded it well over a year ago in order to get access to some information which I thought it would be useful to have, with the intention of eventually releasing it for others who might be after that same info. I finally got around to doing an installer build for it, so, well, here it is.

The application runs on Windows, and .NET 3.5 is required.

More info and a download link can be found here (http://www.geekerati.com/aovc/).

Information which it can provide includes diffraction and sampling limits for a given optical tube, pixel and sensor angle of view of a given camera with that OTA, sensor inter-pixel gap, as well as effective pixel illumination for extended objects.

I find it handy for comparing different scopes to see how well matched they are to a given camera, as well as for comparing things like effective brightness between scopes that may, at first, seem to be almost identical. It is also handy for seeing if camera manufacturers are lying about sensor or pixel size, by entering their published spec and then having a look at the gap results.

If you need a camera or scope added to the database, email me with the info via the link on that page, and I'll add it in to the next release. You can alternately edit it in to the .xml files yourself, or manually enter the details into the form.

Regards,
Eric
