Hi all,
Today I got my first Televue EP (a Nagler IV 17mm 2") and I'm sure I'm going to love it!
Beside the EP, I've also spent some extra money for an Astronomik UHC 2" filter as I definitely want to improve nebulas view... hopefully both items will make me and my LX90 happy for long time.
I have a quick question in regarding other type of filters.
Is there anybody using specific filters to reduce "light pollution" effects and if yes, is it a reasonable good investment?
Thanks in advance, Cris.

Do a search on this site on light pollution filters and you should pull up some more exhaustive comments than I will provide here (I've got to run some errands so says my wife)...
I have owned and used light pollution filters (as well as others)...
Bottom line is that "technically" they will work and block out light pollution...however, I think largely that the money spent on a filter is better spent on petrol to get to a dark sky spot...
A UHC filter will also work but will be a bit more "severe" than just a single purpose LPF...
In a nutshell, use your new filter first and see what you think of that before buying a LPF too.
No filter will equal (or come close to in my opinion) a dark sky.

Very true,
I use an Astronomic CLS filter for imaging but it also works well on some nebulars visually in moderate light pollution but you really need at least 10 inch and up aperature for them to work otherwise they dim the object to much in my experence.

Hi all,
I'm not expecting to eliminate the light pollution but to improve the view.
I know and I agree that a dark sky makes the difference, but at this stage I'm unable to go often out of the city, so I have to deal with light pollution. Last night I've tested the UHC filter on the Lagoon Nebula. The results were better than the expected. The nebulosity perception (hope this is the right word) has increased 50% more than without the filter, spreading across the entire EP view. I've tested the filter even with different objects rather than nebulas, but I guess this kind of filter has been designed for that specific scope and in fact on general view I couldn't get any benefit.
I'll do a search in IIS in regarding LPF (my bad I didn't before).
Thanks guys.

Hi Cristiano,
Glad to hear the filter made a good difference on nebulae with the Nagler 17. By sheer chance, I have just ordered those 2 items from Bintel, plus a Nagler 9 and 7, to join the Nagler 22 and 12 I have now - collection pretty complete.

Dont worry fellas, you have the goods. They wont improve the over all
view of everything. But even in LP conditions they'll let you see what
they were designed to let your see. I've used my mine in an 8" under
fairly moonlit skies out here in the boonies and still have lovely views of
M42.
now ya just need the same in OIII, and maybe a H beta
Cheers,CS
