USB hubs

G'Day All,
I have found that I need to use a U.S.B hub to cut down on the number of cable coming back to the computer .The trouble is I now can't find my D.S.I camera on the hub I can hear it connecting but can't find it on my screen can some :help:

Yes it is ,should I use a non powered one

I had the same problem with my webcam. It was corrected by using a shorter cable between it and the computer.

I had a similar problem a couple of months back with a DSI Pro II which I fixed by reloading the windows drivers.

When the DSI is connected to the HUB, can you see it in the Windows Device Manager (under System in the control panel)? If so, I would try deleting it from the device manager (just highlight the device and hit the delete key). Then click the "scan for hardware changes" icon at the top of the device manager window. THis should see the DSI and reload its drivers.

Recommendation #1. Don't.

Right from the very first the DSIs have been problematic when connected to hubs. Even powered ones. The DSI may work on some but not on others. My experience is to have a dedicated USB on your laptop for the DSI and run the other stuff off the hub. Generally np that way as long as i don't use and extension :doh:

BTW I have if you are autoguiding using a webcam and GPUSB I had continual problems when they were run through the same hub. Different hub to different USB port, np, same hub BSOD or lockups.

Or maybe they just dont like me and I should get a paramount ME, 12.5 RCOS and SBIG ST-400XCM ;)

I use my DSI II Pro successfully through a powered hub, but every time I plug it into a different USB port, it is detected as a new device and wants to install the drivers again. If finds them easy enough, but still a pain.

Nowadays I have the port on the hub specially dedicated to the DSI so it doesn't happen any more.

Must agree with Paul in the above quote re connecting to usb hubs.

After trying several different powered hubs, our DSI Pro is connected via a dedicated usb connection using a 5 meter cable with booster otherwise it will not connect.

Similar problem here. I run the DSI on a 3m USB cable to the laptop.
For some reason now and then it isnt recognised. An OS restart then fire up the DSI first always fixes the problem.

And as Paul mentioned, I also had problems when running the DSI and GPUSB though the powered hub; BSOD now and then.

First of all I would like to thank you all for help in my problem,I have uninstall the program then reinstall it and all is working well through the hub but I have had to mark which port in use on the hub for the camera .Hopefully tonight I may have a go at doing some imaging for the first time many :thanx: all
