Good Evening!
I was just wondering if someone could give me a brief rundown on what "dithering" is and when to use it. I use MaxIm for image capture and have started to get into the software programme a bit more and started to use it for guiding as well. I found it in one of the option menus when setting up a sequence and curiosity has got the better of me. The options were "Dither By Guider" or "Dither by Mount".
Thanks.:D

Dither

In astronomical imaging, dither is a small movement of the telescope between images, resulting in a slight offset in the target in each image. During stacking the images are realigned, resulting in the pixel defects moving around relative to the image. Statistical combine methods such as Sigma Clip are then used to eliminate the bad pixels, resulting in a cleaner image.
