I just stumbled across the alignment feature of Astroplanner (v2 beta). In the "Telescope" menu there's a "1-star Polar Alignment", "Iterative Polar Alignment", and a "Polar Drift Alignment Helper".

Upon seeing the iterative polar alignment part, I couldn't help but recall Allan's recent "Get polar aligned in minutes" thread for Alignmaster (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=46091&highlight=alignmaster). Looks very similar to my noobish understanding.

Anyone tried it?

I've had a look at it but think it is a different approach to alignmaster

hi t-p-o
Where did you get the Beta version?
Ive seen no updates on either of the astroplanner related sites lately.
I'm still on 1.6

It's still a little buggy, but Paul does actively correct bug reports and feature requests.

v2 does add some handy new features. Suggest you keep both versions installed "just in case".

I'll second that. Paul Rodman is very proactive about fixing bugs (and adding sensible feature requests).

I use v1.6 and the v2 beta and find it very helpful. When v2 does come out in final candidate, it will be a seriously good bit of gear.

Thanks people, I'll give it a go, but also keep the old one.

By default it installs itself in a different directory anyway. v1.6 was something like c:\astroplanner, but v2b is c:\program files\astroplanner I think. So keeping them separate is not too hard, and they're different icons too so easy to distinguish them.
