[NightCal]

A new piece of ephemerides software is here in the form of the first beta release of ‘NightCal’ Astronomical Observing Calendar software.
NightCal is a simple, practical tool for basic observation session planning.It produces a single A4 sheet monthly calendar telling the user when it gets dark, when the Moon rises and sets and what the Moon should look like when it does make an appearance.It also provides data on the elongation of the inferior planets and a quick aide mémoire for planetary conjunctions.The output is designed to be printed so that you can stick it on your notice board at home or work or saved as a graphics file for inclusion in newsletters or publishing on the web.
Sorry, but due to an oversight, at the moment the software does not provide the correct orientation of the Moon for southern hemisphere observers. This will be rectifed in a later release.

I'm sorry if I have commited a fopar. From my understanding of the rules (which I read before posting) Vendors are not allowed to advertise. That seems fair. A Vendor is someone selling something. I am giving away freeware, how can I possibly be 'selling' anything?

Bob and Michael. Welcome to IceInSpace. I'm sure there are members here who will be more than happy to try out your Beta Ephem.

There have been some issues before with unsolicited commercial adverting on the site. As this is a open forum for amateurs astronomers, members become very protective of this and advertising by commercial interests raises a bit of ire :).

However being amateur astronomers yourself we would welcome your input to the site. "Do it yourself" guys, be it physical, electronic or cyber, are an integral part of this forum.

Whilst the vast majority of users don't seem to having any problems, we've had a few people e-mail us saying that when they try and run NightCal they are getting the message " FATAL ERROR - Invalid data in LoadVSOPData ". We think we know what's happening, but still don't fully understand why.

The more information we have as to why these few people are getting this error message, the quicker we can come up with a fix. If this happens to you, please could you e-mail us straight away at nightcal@hotmail.co.uk.

The new version of NightCal (version 0.6.2) is now available for download at our website at www.nightcal.co.uk (http://www.nightcal.co.uk/) . The new version fixes the Fatal Error bug experienced by users in some non-English speaking countries.
