I have finally ordered a few books from Amazon about the Planet X etc etc....

Does anyone have any theories etc about this new finding (albeit a few years after its discovery)........

Thanks Terry,

Yes, I have heard about her and she seems like a real fruitloop.........
Thankfully, the 2 books I have concern the Mayan calendars and reference to a new found planet they discovered 600 years.......etc etc.....
Thankfully nothing related to this Zeta stuff........:D

Thanks for that.........good read...........in fact, the 2 books are both about the ancient Sumerians and their gods and beliefs.......which in turn mentions their home planet...........I can remember reading this sort of stuff in the 70's as a teenager......as my father was enjoying his astronomy at the time and subject popped up especially early 80's.

I actuslly purchased these books as my serious hobby over the past 25 years has been 'ancient history, civilizations and religions'...........
I find we are somewhat restricted in the books we can get here hence source them from overseas including places like Amazon etc..

I think last count I had topped the 850 book mark..............(dont tell the wife)...;)

Oh Lord....not this old chestnut!!

It makes me sooo angry.

Everyone knows planet X was found by one M. Martian, D. Duck and P. Pig
in 1953.....and they made a mess of it too :)

Marclau,

I appreciate and applaud your enthusiasm to research the subject, to form your own opinion, and to hopefully draw your own conclusion to this so-called 'Planet X'. I hope you will come to a very sensible conclusion. Based on your signature, I trust you will do this.

I've never commented on this theory anywhere on any forum before, and I have only had a medium knowledge of the subject, from what I have read and heard enough information to form the opinion, and it is this:

Any information which would come to light of the existence of a newly discovered planet, or planetoid or any type of object orbiting the Sun, would be of great scientific interest to the professional and amateur communities.

However, when a 'discovery' such as this has: (a) been perpetuated though the internet, (b) continually refuted by the scientific community, and finally (c) constantly associated by conspiracy theorists that is a ''government cover up" to keep the population calm, I immediately give it no credible cause whatsoever.

More broadly, my third point is the icing on the cake as far as I am concerned. I, personally do not believe in high-level government "cover-ups", the "Area 51's", "Apollo was a hoax", "this August, Mars will be as big as the Moon", "9-11 was a US-government-operation to rid the world of Jews/black people/Asians/white Caucasian males/midgets" and so forth, most of which are held by some delusional and paranoid U.S citizens (present company in IIS excepted). If a theory or topic has government conspiracy attached to it, it has lost all credibility for me.

Whilst I appreciate that civilisations such as the Mayans were a very clever and resourceful race, and like many ancient civilisations we should give them more credit that what we do for their knowledge of the night sky, we also can very easily misinterpret their writings, and sometimes form our own beliefs based on a series of (mis)interpretations.

I recall back to several TV programs in the 1970's and again in the 1980's which claimed that the world would end on specific dates based on the interpretations of prophesies of Nostradamus (hosted by John Waters, from memory). All those dates have come and gone and I am still here typing this post.

Marclau, you state this is a "new finding" but it has been circling the internet for years. I so not consider this a "new scientific finding" and I will be very blunt here. I think after you read your several books purchased from Amazon, you'll finally realise you've just wasted your money which could have been put to better use.

And yes Kev, I agree!

pretty much sums it up for me.. the notion an unkown planet is going to show up on our doorstep in 2003 is absurd .. hang on it didn't show up did it .. whats the new date .. ok ..2012.. Its worth noteing that even the half whackos think Nancy Lieder ..
(where most of this stuff comes from)is crazy.

The whole exersise is about selling us books on the subject
...all works of fiction .. seems to be working alright to;)

all I know about planet X is that if we don't want to run out of the Shaving cream atom, we must go to planet X.

Thanks everyone........

Actually my inerest is not so mch Planet X as such, only cause I book I just finished about the ancient Sumerians and their civilizations, their was a mention about Sitchen and Planet X etc etc..........I simply thought it might be of interest to look at this different road.
As for Nostradamus, no interest as this is simply based on ways of interpridations........

Stephen, and whilst i understand this topic is really out of scope for this forum, this touches a nerve with me as I have had personal experience on some of these topics.
A very close and personal friend of mine named David Summers use to run a magazine called Exposure. Originally it was a magazine designed to show alternatives to current held beliefs on medicine etc...........pretty soon it ended up with UFO's, aliens etc etc...........

The shear volume of times he was arrested, harrassed and rec'd death threats was incredible........so much so that his work, his home etc was raided etc..........surely he touched a nerve with some powerful people because of his magazine??? Now he has sold up everything including his family home........sure, you may not believe, but you sound like a knowledgable man who should also have an open mind..

If you understand that this topic is out of scope for this forum, then, why are you posting about it?

Your friend was arrested, harrassed, etc., because his works of fiction annoyed people who probably couldn't handle the fact that he was gaining credibiilty amongst the more gullible out there.

Finally, this topic has absolutely /nothing/ to do with having an open mind. It is about facts.

Planet X has as much credibility as the spam I receive on a daily basis pertaining to Acai berries, Nigerian 419 scams, and Commonwealth Bank emails telling me that my account is insecure and to provide my NetBank details so that they can restore my service.

Mods, please lock this thread -- it's survived a lot longer than the other threads on this most lame and heinous of topics.

Humayun

What a load of crock.....seriously, you have no idea what I am talking about.......now look who has a closed mind......I'll leave it at that knowing you have no clue and just because you may a little bit about astronomy.......a b it like a botanist scientist talking about how a computer works..........talk about calling the kettle black!!! You unreal....how dare you ask about closing my thread down!!!!

I started this post wanting to get a view of peoples thoughts about Planet X.........whether you believe is not now of no importance to me!!!

Not my fault the topic got out of hand........besides, this area is called 'general chat'........look at other posts......talking about Star Trek........pilot dies in mid air.............perhaps this topic touched a nerve with you which you dont seem to comprehend let alone understand???!! Perhaps you should then not enter this part of the forum!!!

This topic and others in the same genre appear to strongly polarize Forum members. From what I have observed, Team A never convinces Team B and vice versa.

Because the topic is so polarizing, it is not unusual to find strong views at both ends of the spectrum thus the post becomes a breeding ground for misunderstanding, intense disagreement and highly charged reactions.

I think it is nigh impossible to put forward a well though out, comprehensive, philosophically coherent case and then for that to be addressed in an equally comprehensive manner; after all, the parties in these debates did not suddenly wake up one morning and adopt their position. Their position is usually based on a gradual adoption of their system of thought over a long period of time with several key milestones that validate why they subscribe to that particular understanding.

I suspect that person to person discussions would not sway either party, although the sting may be taken out of the interchange as you are interacting face to face rather than via a keyboard. It seems that the keyboard is poor medium when such opposing views are being espoused?

I think that this might be a reason these threads get locked?

Cheers

Dennis

Responses here and in any part of the forum need to be civil.

Once personal attacks begin, we as moderators have no choice but to step in and act and that's something we don't like doing.

Please keep the responses on a non-personal level else the thread will be locked and offending posts removed.

Scientists have recently detected a planet (COROT-Exo_7b) with about 2x the Earths radius orbiting a star 400 LY away. If Planet X was going to hit or disrupt Earth in 2012 even if it was travelling at the speed of light could be no further then 3.5 light years away. Anyone who is capable of rational thought would soon work out we would have seen it by now. The evidence does not support it's existence.

I don't often bottom post, but I will, this time.

I do know what you're talking about -- a planet that doesn't exist. :)

You're wrong. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to astronomy. I don't have any formal education in the field (apart from one elective at university); just the things I've read and picked up over the years. I don't have a closed mind -- as clueless about astronomy as I am, and perhaps clueless about everything else in life, I am not that gullible to believe in an non-existent planet. I update Starry Night Pro Plus at least once a week and it still doesn't have its orbital elements. :(

You mention that my stance is a bit like a botanist talking about how a computer works (you're pretty close, in my case it would be a computer scientist talking about plants). That may be so, but, I put it to you that if professional astronomers/scientists talk about (well, they probably don't talk about it at all) the non-existence of Planet X, is that still not enough evidence to discount its existence? And, professional astronomers, unlike me, aren't clueless -- they know what they're talking about.

Well, seeing as Mike locked the human rights violation thread yesterday, I thought I might be on a bit of a roll and thought I'd ask. I'm amazed that this one's gone on longer than the other ones that are usually killed two or three posts into it.

If you didn't care for what I (or anyone else thought) then why would you ask for our opinions on Planet X? I gave mine.

Star Trek = movie. Pilot dying in mid air = fact. Planet X = makes me angry, steam comes out my ears and I froth at the mouth. So, you're 100% correct, it did touch a nerve.

Humayun

A Planet X thread? How did this fly under my radar ;)

We've been over this topic many times. It's bound to come up from time to time, especially when it gets discussed in other media, or as we get closer to 2012.

In general I have no problem with people asking about it if they're genuinely curious because of what they've heard, but once said person has been educated then the thread no longer needs to continue.
