View Full Version here: : Computor help - delete Java updates??
Hello computor orientated people. ;)
Just wondering - my poor laptop has barely any space left on it, so looking at what I can get rid of that I dont use.
In the Add/Remove programs, I have quite a few Java updates - 3 5 7 and 11, and 2 Runtime Environment - 5.0 Update 10, and 6 Update 1 - all these average about 100 megagbytes each.
Can I get rid of a few???

Hi Liz,
My research suggests that you can delete all the updates, refer to this link http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/608975-can-i-delete-java-updates.html
They suggest you then download the latest version of Java and install it. Download from http://www.java.com/en/
One other thing you should try which can free up a stack of space, right click on your recycle bin, click on properties, and check the percentage being used for recycling files. If it says 10% it means 10% of your hard disk is reserved for deleted files. I suggest that you might need 2% at the most, move the slider so that it reads 2%
Hope that helps!
Cheers

No wurries!
I invested $20 in a program called Advanced System Care which does all the cleaning up and tuning up of your system automatically. Also has a hard disk defrag program that is very helpful. You might like to give them a try. http://www.iobit.com/advancedwindowscareper.html and no, I don't have any connections with Iobit!
There's a free version :) and the $20 version that has all the bells and whistles.
Cheers
