by the way, collimation seems a lot better, but stars still don't focus spherically for want of a better term when i make tiny movements in the focusser, i think i will wait for star camp! Thanks for your help!

I really like the way the lightning can also be seen going upwards from the cloud in pic 1.

The best strikes came when is was directly over-head. It was raining hard though & I wasn't going to stuff my camera up. Glad you like em' anyway guys. Gotta take pics of SOMETHING in this rotten weather!

No scope Davo...Just the P&S kodak. AVI mode & just guess where the next strike will be. Those 4 pics are from 5 different AVIs ranging from 2-4 mins a piece. Probably 2 hrs process work due to my clapped out computer. Process 1....re-boot etc etc..

I missed a majority of lastnights action :( I was involved in a three car collision yesterday afternoon so I was a little sore, also the video camera decided to stuff up also (chewed a brand new tape). Not having a good run. Can you make some small AVI's John of the strikes? In pic 1 the strike you see up in the frame is actually reflection inside the camera lens quite common using video camera or similar type cameras with lens. It is often mistaken for feelers which seem to come from the ground, trying to connect with the main channel.

Sorry to hear that Andrew, hope everyone involved is ok. I'm afraid I've already deleted the original AVIs, they were taking up too much space on my little hard disk. There will be other storms no doubt. Thanks for the info re: lens reflections, that's very interesting.

I nearly bunged on the contrast booster over the lens just to see what would happen...or even the baader UHC-S filter I have..

Cool lightening images there, I'm a storm lover myself especially lightening storms. Here a few shots I took awhiles back. Using a Canon PowerShot A85.
Dont remember too much about the settings except they were 15sec exposures

NIce work there Rob, very dramatic.

Everyone is fine thanks for asking, I do have a bit of muscle soreness around my shoulders and neck but my son is fine. Still waiting on word wether the insurance company will write it off or repair it, apparently it is borderline. Pics of it are here---> http://www.theastroweb.com/laser/

As you can see I was transporting a ladder. :o
