I'm currently running Stellarium 0.10.1 beta and was wonder version others are using?

After hearing of the problems earlier this year with newer versions, I decided not to upgrade because it's reasonably stable, but if others are now successfully running 0.10.2 I'd like to upgrade.

Can you let me know.

Regards,
Paul

I'm running 10.2 using XP SP3 on an Asus P4 MB. Works fine with EQMOD driving an EQ6 in my obs. I can also run it remotely from in the house using Remote Desktop over ethernet.

It will not work directly on my in-house older P4, the menus are not fully visible, although everything else seems OK. I suspect the S3 video driver. Fixed that problem, I use CDC inside :)

I'm still running 0.9.1 as I find v10 very difficult to use. Where have all the controls gone?

Cheers,
Jason.

Hi Jason

The menus changed substantially on version 0.10.x. They are now pull in or pull up.

Slide your mouse to the bottom left and side and the menus will appear. If they don't it is because you are using full screen and the mouse is not reaching the bottom border. Press F11 to get the windowed version and drag the borders to your prefered size then Press F2 to get the configure menu and click "save settings"

If you still have trouble finding menus they can be displayed also by key presses. F6 is location, F5 is Time, F4 is viewing options, F3 is search, F2 is configuration and F1 is help

Other key options will be found in the help menu.

Use version 0.10.2 for preference as it corrects a number of bugs in 0.10.1 and can be updated to a pseudo version of 0.10.3 from

Lots of graphics driver problems in 0.10.1, but they now seem to have fixed those in 0.10.2, at least for the two machines I run it on.

But I still don't reckon you can beat CDC.

Cheers

Hi

A new release of stellarium is not far away. It may be version 0.10.3 or it may be version 0.11.0

However for those windows users who would like to have a preview of the current state. I have updated the patch 4747.zip to the current state. It is a patch for version 0.10.2.

download www.iceinspace.com.au/uploads/4747.zip (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/uploads/4747.zip)

and follow the readme-first.txt file

And for the Linux users? What version of X11 do you need to have to stop 0.10.2 crashing in either DRI or QT4?

I tried building Mesa (i.e. OpenGL) with DRI disabled because those were the first failures I saw. Stellarium would run sometimes, with frame rates below 1 per sec. (This is a 2.4GHz Q6600 with Radeon XT2900 graphics. If I boot XP Stellarium 0.10.2 gives around 40 frames/sec.) Other times it would crash in QT versions 4.5.1 and 4.5.2.

Is there any chance it will run on Slackware 12.2 or do I have abandon stability and switch to something bleeding edge like Ubuntu?

I don't know much about Linux builds (ubuntu). My video display does not have an OpenGl driver so runs very slow. Other than this I have no problems with a (Ubuntu) Linux build of 0.10.3.

Windows builds with ATI displays have been a problem for some time as the ATI OpenGl drivers do not like the later versions of QT. However the text display method has been changed in the latest build. Gettext dependancy has been dropped in favour of QT4 and I would be interested in how it works now on ATI displays. It works better on my SiS display.

Did you try the patch I posted yesterday. It is different to the patch from last week although it has the same name (to avoid redundant patches on the server)

Stellarium 10.2 works fine with windows XP SP3 which is on my laptop.

I have also loaded it onto my home PC which is running Windows Vista and it has crashed a couple of times.

It refuses to open on my brother inlaws laptop which is running Windows vista.:screwy:

Seems to work fine with XP and a bit hit a miss on Vista.

still on 0.9.0 I'm afraid, I lost 0.9.1 when I loaded 0.10.1

- with 0.10.2 I get gobbledygook when a menu is selected, and it freezes. This happens on 3 different newish computers, all of which have up-to-date drivers, so I've given up and uninstalled it.

hi Barry, -has the freezing and menu mess been looked at in 0.10.3?

Hi Barry,

This is probably not the right thread to post this if so I will create a new post.

Have there been any thoughts or possibilities to import Stellarium into the Nintendo DS Lite?

http://www.thetanooki.com/2007/03/22/non-game-concept-of-the-week-starry-night-ds/

I don't know if this project has taken off the ground as I can't find anything more on it. But if something could be done, it certainly would be a winner.

Cheers, Norm

That is a prblem with ATI cards. Stellarium can't fix it. They need new drivers to take care of the new features in openGl. The latest build however may be OK as gettext has been dropped in favour of QT.

I don't have any bother.

There have been many suggestions to port Stellarium to mobiles and games machines but the main stream Stellarium will not be doing this. If someone wants to tackle it themselves they would be welcome..
