I have a Dell Latitude D600 with a 1.4Ghz cpu, 768mb's ram, 5400rpm hdd and winxp home.

What concerns me is the hdd. Is 5400rpm fast enough to accept the data being thrown at it by the dmk or will I need to upgrade to a 7200rpm drive? I know it dropped a lot of frames if I went over 15fps with the old spc900 webcam.

My dmk hasn't arrived yet so I can't test it but I have an opportunity to get a 7200rpm ide lappy hdd so I thought I'd ask. As you might know, 7200rpm ide lappy hdd's are getting scarce.

cheers

Capturing to an internal drive might have problems at 30fps, but capturing to an external harddrive (7200) will fix that problem.

I always capture to an external harddrive for the same reason. I can capture at 60fps with less than 1% dropped frames.

Hi Mark

My almost 6 year old IBM ThinkPad R40 has an Intel Centrino 1.4Ghz CPU, 512Mb of RAM and an 80Gb 5400rpm HDD fitted by me to replace the OEM 40Gb 4000rpm HDD.

From memory, I don’t recollect any problems capturing avi’s from my DMK21AF04.AS (Firewire) to the internal 80Gb 5400rpm disk, although I now capture the avi’s directly to an external HDD, a Maxtor 320Gb 7200rpm connected via USB2 via a docking station.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks for the info. An external solution sounds like an easier option if needed.
Now if only the cam would arrive.
