Has anyone put a USB extension onto the short cable supplied with the dsi? If so, were there any issues with performance? I'm looking at getting a 3m-5m extension
cheers

even though i haven't used a dsi.. the general rule of thumb with usb is that signal degrades at lengths over 5 metres, how much it degrades is dependant on the device. you can get usb signal boosters though, but they're abit pricey.

I read somewhere that the DSI is a fairly hungry beast power wise so you may have problems.

not sure if it helps, but my 5m usb extension is fine for my toucam, no noticeable power differences

Check these two sites out Heian. They give the power requirements and recomendations for powering both the ToUcam and the DSI.

a standard usb cable uses 28 gauge wire, for a DSI you should have a cable with 20 gauge for maximum performance, this is especially true if using usb extensions, the other important factor is computer processor speed.

I use a active usb repeater cable with my DSI, these are 5m in length and you can use up to 5 of these together.
I have only ever used one 5m length
I have heard that the normal usb extension does not work due to the power requirments of the DSI.
Cost was about $20.00 per cable off Ebay
There are USB 1.1 cables and USB 2 cables, get the USB 2
