Hello and welcome :welcome:

Worked not to bad :poke: No the 31 is :jawdrop: in both scopes. So will be the same in the 12"

I'm after one great eyepiece as I dont do much visual work but I'm hoping with this that I might get back into it again

I don't think one great eyepiece will change your viewing habits. Also, less expensive widefield eyepieces will perform well at F/10. I think you'll be disappointed with the cost/benefit ratio of the 31 Nag, given your equipment and viewing preferences.

I would have to agree..From what I can gather, a premium eyepiece such as a nagler is simply not needed in an SCT. 'Want' & 'need' are 2 separate issues though I guess.

I had a feeling that it might be the case with a big SCT but you are right about the need and want issue. I could always fall back on the orion 80mm ED if the SCT does not show great views. I'll let you know what I do.

Try a 35 mm Panoptic. :D

BTW, I didn't mean to knock the 31 Nag in my earlier post. Coupled with an O-III filter in a big fast dob, the Veil becomes a religious experience.

While back i was seeking advice for a EL Supremo eyepiece for my 10" SCT , thinking that the longest focal length would be the go i was surprised to see the common take was to put the money on a eyepiece double the focal ratio of your scope that being around 20mm for my F10 scope . Decided to go the 22mm nagler which gives me 113x , great for general viewing , i add a focal reducer to go low and a 2x powermate to bump over 200x for the planets/moon , with this eyepiece and the 2 accessories i cover a nice range of around 70x/113/140/226 ...perfect IMO .
Do you use any other EP's Stuart? sounds like a perfect match, I'm thinking along the same lines using my 8" SCT and a 22mm nagler. That said I'm very impressed with the views from my 20mm superview it is super crisp to the edge and I'm comfortable with the 65deg. I've never looked through a 82deg ep so I don't know what that is like.

Mick peoples impressions vary but i was immeditaletly impressed when i first viewed through the 22mm , must admit i was nervous when i shed the money but its a descision that i have never regreted. Going widefeild does lead to further consequences ive added a 14mm meade UWA a 9mm nagler and a 6mm radian plus i already have a 32mm meade SWA {this is pretty damn good when used with the 2x powermate}. With the three scopes i own these eyepieces/focal lengths cover all bases and im  with the orion 80ed hooked up to the SCT and loaded with the 14mm and the SCT with the 22mm its something special :D Dave has a 26mm nagler for sale at the moment to
