IE8, how awful it is

Ive been putting up with Internet Explorer 8 and its awful performance for a week now, finally got sick of it and rolled back to IE7. IE8 cannot handle more than about 4 windows open, otherwise it refuses to connect to the internet and I get blank windows. That NEVER happed on IE7 or Firefox browser. I have 8 GB of ram too!

So DO NOT use IE8 thats all I can recommend. Will there ever be a day before the heat death of the universe before Microsoft actually manages to make software that works? I cannot believe how incompetant the programmers at MS are.

I believe this is the last IE from microsoft. They have given up.

I used chrome, the google one, on a clients machine last week, it was pretty good for the 1/2 hour I used it.

I use Chrome all the time. It's FAST! I've had 15+ tabs open with no dramas.

IE8 was pushed out the door too early, granted. They are silly for doing so.

What they didn't do, however, is really make the downloading pulic realise that it is early beta. There was no "if it don't work don't blame us" doco distributed with it. It is presumed by the public to be in release.

Early beta? Well, I've downloaded and used beta copies of Firefox, Safari, Opera and a host of others before and they've been fine - so why not IE8?

IE8 is bordering on busting with new features provided in line with the new standards it is trying to establish. We've had it for a while in our software development company to try and get our heads around some of the new feature set. It's pretty extensive I'll say. Will it be useful in the short term for average users like yourselves? Probably not.

So - voice your concern to MS and maybe they'll stop trying to rush what are otherwise pretty good directions in development.

i subscribe to the langa list news letter and they recommend not to install ie8 for at least another couple of months because of problems :)

google chrome may be fast but is not very high on the security(on chrome unless they fixed it?) list different stories every where :)

I've never had a problem with Chrome security - where do you get that information from John?

The way Chrome is designed makes it GOOD for security.

like i said they may have fixed the security probs

from memory google gets info from your computer ect ect chrome can do the same when you login to some of googles services ect

its been a while since ive read this though :)

Im back on IE7, and also have Firefox. Both of those work well. Might chuck Crome on one day and see how that goes

I love Chrome, but still use Firefox regularly because I also use Roboform (http://www.roboform.com/) for my Passwords / Form Filling, which does not yet work in Chrome.

I'm having no troube with IE8 (so far) but I got Firefox incase things go pear shaped

I second that. I use it 100% the time, so fast, so "clean", so much screen space for the actual page!

IE8 is shaping up to be a nightmare for website compatibility.

Yeh we've forced it to use IE7 compatibility mode for our application at work, because we haven't gone through any compatibility testing for IE8 yet.

Have you been finding compatibility mode works? Last time I tried compatibility mode was when it was in Beta, and it was very very far from compatible :lol: :sad:

I installed ie8 as well,what a mistake that was :( so I'm now using Firefox
and so far have had no problems :)

Don't overlook Opera fellas. I use it preference to any other - and it's built-in mail client is a superb bonus. Two applications in one, and lighter in weight that Firefox.
