A question for some of the more dedicated astrophotographers out there....

After imaging run with the 450D, I end up with a heap of 4272 x 2848 pixel exposures, but when I go to stack subs in Registax I find it has a size limit of 4096 x 4096.

To get down to 4096 width, I have been manually cropping 176 pixels from each exposure using Microsoft Office Picture Manager, but I find it gets a bit tedious when you have several hundred frames from a good night.

Is there an easy way to "batch" trim exposures?

Thanks for reading.

Jeff

Hi Jeff.

Instead of using Registax to stack the images I suggest that you use Deep Sky Stacker which is a much better program for stacking large images.

It's free as well.

Can I ask why you are using Registax Jeff and not Deepsky Stacker?

Yeah, Irfanview does batch processing (it's free too):

http://www.irfanview.com/

Can't get any easier with its user interface. You can also do other operations (e.g. resize, rotation, grayscale conversion, convert to another image format, brighten, sharpen, etc) and combinations of them as a batch.

But others here have pointed at a better approach/software for your specific needs, but you might find uses for Irfanview's batch feature for other situations :)

Thanks Ash, have just grabbed irfanView also. Used it heavily years ago, but never played with its batch operations.

Cheers.
