I know it's probably a personal preference but is there any appreciable difference between Neatimage and Noise Ninja. What are the Pro's and cons of each.
I'm about to buy one or the other, so if you have any feedback it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Phil, I'm not a real fan of noise reduction software. I bought a copy of Noiseware pro and have used it along with both the others you mention. I find darks and image processing does a far better job of noise removal than these software packages do. I find that while they all remove the apparent noise or at least reduce it to acceptable levels but they all seem to impart some other artifacts to the image.
Good luck with your choise. Download trials before you buy and give them a go.

Hi Phil
I use Neat Image (http://www.neatimage.com/index.html)(as a Photoshop Plug-in), although I have only used it for happy snap daytime photography, not astro photography. It does what it says, reduces noise and it seems to work quite well. I have only used it on a casual basis so I cannot really provide any in-depth advice on its effectiveness compared to other software apps.
You can profile your camera’s noise and save it, for the various ISO speeds as well.
I suspect that skillful use of the Photoshop’s own noise reduction features would probably do as good a job for most applications?
Other apps I am aware of are:
Noiseware (http://www.imagenomic.com/)
NoiseNinja (http://www.picturecode.com/index.htm)

Hi All
I use Neatimage for my noise reduction. I have the Pro version with the photshop plugin. It cost over $100 and works well. Is it worth that much over Photoshops own NR feature? When I resize my work to between 30-50 inch print size I find that it definatly does a better job. For standard print size I cannot tell the difference. I have never used it for Astrophotography only for my Landscapes.

Hi Andrew
Phew, that’s good to know, as I purchased the full Pro version too, but haven’t performed the tests you describe. So thanks for validating my investment.

I use http://cimg.sourceforge.net/greycstoration/
It's free. I use it as a Gimp plugin, but you can use it standalone as a commandline application. I also note there is a photoshop plugin http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=2584350&forum_id=423277
