Happy new year.:hi: This little toy fell off Santa's delivery truck:thumbsup: so I pointed it at M42 last week for a imaging test. 15x30sec + 15x300sec using layer mask in PS. EQ6 mount with Lumicon OAG ,ST4, Orion 190 f5.3 Mak-Newt, QHY8 camera. Considering the cost of the scope I am very happy.

Nice piccie....tad too much green but an excellent piccie. Nice detail:D

BTW....Santa's courier should be more damn careful carting expensive bits of gear around like that!!!:P:D

Very nice Ken!
Reading about the Orion Mak-Newt, sounds like a very nice bit of gear and a nice pic to prove it. Maybe the shadows have a slight green cast but other than that, very nice..

Very Nice. The colour cast doesn't bother me at all. Very nice job of layering the core.
Nice scope.

Thanks guys for the kind words. Steve your version has a bit more detail did you use a Lucy Rich or something similar. Mark P. you should not have any trouble focusing with a DSLR if you don't use a filter wheel or OAG after using Coma correctors and focal reducers for years its nice to just fit the camera to the focuser and start imaging.:D

My wife purchased it for me from Sirius Optics in Qld with the rings and dovetail , they gave good service with prompt delivery.I was also lucky to get 10% discount with the Sky Tel promotion for new subscriptions. I was tossing up between this or an ED120 ,apart from Andy's Shotglass site it was hard to find a good deep sky image, I took a bit of a gamble and bought one.

I think you can safely say the gamble paid off Ken!

Very nice detail there Ken.
Slight green colour-cast but very nice otherwise.

Well done and congrats on your new gear.

Hi Ken

I like to use the Shadow/Highlight tool in PS CS3 .... it can be found in the Image/Adjustments submenu. With a little bit of practice it works well for astro images.

Yes David is fond of refractors, although he is quite keen to have a go at imaging with my GSO 10" newt :)

However I'm sure that if Santa dropped a QHY8 over for him next time he would be pretty happy with that.

Top image Ken, lets see some more!

Andy's shot glass looks like an advert for all things Orion i don't think he own's ANYTHING that is not an Orion so how can you get a proper assessment of anything when there is no comparing. It's Orion or nothing...
