Orion with Orion 190 Mak-Newt

Happy new year. This little toy fell off Santa's delivery truck so I pointed it at M42 last week for a imaging test. 15x30sec + 15x300sec using layer mask in PS. EQ6 mount with Lumicon OAG ,ST4, Orion 190 f5.3 Mak-Newt, QHY8 camera. Considering the cost of the scope I am very happy.
Clear skies Ken

Very nice Ken!
Reading about the Orion Mak-Newt, sounds like a very nice bit of gear and a nice pic to prove it. Maybe the shadows have a slight green cast but other than that, very nice..

Very Nice. The colour cast doesn't bother me at all. Very nice job of layering the core.
Nice scope.

Great picture! Very sharp focus and tight guiding. Best M42 I've seen around here.

Thanks guys for the kind words. Steve your version has a bit more detail did you use a Lucy Rich or something similar. Mark P. you should not have any trouble focusing with a DSLR if you don't use a filter wheel or OAG after using Coma correctors and focal reducers for years its nice to just fit the camera to the focuser and start imaging.

My wife purchased it for me from Sirius Optics in Qld with the rings and dovetail , they gave good service with prompt delivery.I was also lucky to get 10% discount with the Sky Tel promotion for new subscriptions. I was tossing up between this or an ED120 ,apart from Andy's Shotglass site it was hard to find a good deep sky image, I took a bit of a gamble and bought one.
Clear Skies Ken C.

Very nice detail there Ken.
Slight green colour-cast but very nice otherwise.

Well done and congrats on your new gear.

Hi Ken

I like to use the Shadow/Highlight tool in PS CS3 .... it can be found in the Image/Adjustments submenu. With a little bit of practice it works well for astro images.

Nice, looking forward to seeing more from the Mak-Newt, been looking at it in that Sirius advert for a while now and wondering.
