Software for D200?

After a few subtle hints, Santa came good with a Eee PC netbook (using right now) which I intend to use with my Nikon D200.

Can any Nikon owners recomend software to operate my comera?

Hey there Deeno

Although you have to pay for it, ImagesPlus Camera Control works for my Canon 350D on my eeePc 701 (the small one). The software comes with connectivity to both Canon and Nikon cameras though - as long as you can conect via cable so that your bulb function can be controlled over 30 secs - which the D200 does. I'd use my Nikon on it too, but it only has IR control, not cable. ImagesPlus is aware of each cameras' functionality, and applies itself to control only those functions that can be rather than presenting just a generic interface.

Only thing is that you'll also need a USB to serial adapter for connecting the cable to - something like a Keyspan unit. I tried a cheapo one off eBay and it does all manner or weird things like expose when it's not mant to, and going off wen the exposure was meant to have finished.

A cable to the remote 10 pin plug on the camera seems to be the answer. I think even free ware such as DSLR Shutter will work.

I've downloaded a trial version of Nikons camera control software which runs through the USB ports but, has no facilites for programing the bulb functions, which leaves maximum exposures of only 30 seconds.

The next question is where do I find the cable for the remote socket on the camera to the USB port on the computer? Or some directions on how to make one.

This is what I was trying to explain on Saturday night Deeno.
You need a plug (10 pin I assume) to fit the cable release socket on your Nikon and you need to cut this cable and interface it with a cable that is designed to work with DSLR Shutter or Images Plus and plugs into your USB.

A cable release such as this one.

And then somehow cut and connect it to this cable from OPT (http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid=8452&kw=Cable%20for%20ImagesPlus&st=2) or equivalent cable.

This will then allow you to control the D200 via software.

It's as far as I can help because I'm not too familiar with Nikon, but hope it helps a bit.
