Starry Night help please

Hi All

I have Starry Night Pro Plus Version 6.2.3.

Last night I put together an observation list of targets I wanted to see for this coming Saturday night. As I won't be imaging I will leave my laptop at home so just wanted to print out the list to take with me.

The instructions say that from the Lists menu click on the "Export..." tab and the list will be exported to a text based list which can then be printed.

When I click on "Export..." the screen blinks as if it is going to do something and nothing more happens. I can't find any files that may have been created on my hardrive to print from.

Is this process supposed to work like this? I would have thought that I would have been given a Text Box to at least choose where the file is being saved and what it should be called. Can't get anything.

Are the files actually being created but just being cunningly hidden from me somewhere.

Any thoughts are appreciated. :thumbsup:

I'm not in front of my machine which has the exact same version as you're using, but, if you try and hold down Alt+Tab to cycle through applications, does a second Starry Night Pro Plus window come up in the cycle list? It may be that it is being hidden behind the main Starry Night Pro Plus window?

I'll try that at home tonight. I didin't see anything on the taskbar but you never know.

Can you do me a favour and try this process on your pc and report back as to what should happens when you hit Export in the lists menu.

Hi Darren,

I use the same program version as you and although I hadn't made up a list before I just did a test one no problem! Made up and saved to file ready for printing.

One thing I did find though was that when making the initial list in Observing Tools the search is only half there, you must then select individual items from search results and transfer them across (one at a time)to Current Observing List using the centre arrows. Have you done this?

If this is not done it will show the title in Observing List but no selections.

Yeah did this as well. Once the list is formed you can access the Export option. It is all there waiting to go but no cigar!

When it exports to another file what program does it open?

I wonder if my firewall is blocking Starry Night from opening another program? :shrug:

Hmmmm, sounds like someone with more computer sence than me needed here, or the help people at StarryNight.

When mine was exported it was just the normal "save as" window then in a file I selected as a normal text document that opens with notepad.
