Given Rick Wright died yesterday, who is listening to Pick Floyd tonight and what album?
I have Dark Side on ATM...
Al.
Might pop 'Momentary Lapse of Reason' a little later tonight...after I've wound down a little.:)
As I type Meddle is playing in the background and then after a few reds I'll probably play Umma Gumma.
Timeless music, that's for sure.

Been through all of 'Obscured by Clouds' and parts of 'Ummagumma'. Following that is some of 'More' and then all of 'Atom Heart Mother'. I'm saving 'Meddle' and 'Wish You Were Here' for later. Doubt I'll bother about "Dark Side" - not their best stuff.
:) yep i have their best of album playing Echos

Wish You Were Here on now. Might follow on with Atom Heart Mother.
I'll have to get Umma Gumma on CD... I used to have it on tape...

The album is Meddle!!! The track that fills the second side is Echos!!!!! Shees :doh:I mean, not knowing how to set up a mount is forgivable, not knowing you Floyd is quite different.

Yes, I was about to say the same.............;)
But I must say I prefer the original albums. Sounds strange to hear the tracks disconnected from their familiar neighbours!
Listening? I think I'll watch - spin the P.U.L.S.E. DVD later this evening! Sure - no Roger - but I don't mind.

Hi All,
I've just finished watching Live at Pompei -- containing a great (though slightly truncated) live version of Echoes.
Just about to listen to Wish You Were Here and then Dark Side ... in the dark.
Best,

Oh dear, dear, dear. I do apologise. I remember seeing that one in the store, and of course what else would one call a Floyd 'best-of'.
Funny how you can read what you expect to see rather than what is written. I've know people to call the album Echos before and so instead of reading 'best of album playing Echos' I saw 'best album playing Echos'. Mea culpa.
However I don't think I need to scrub up on my Floyd too much. I know which one's pink :P. But I'm not saying .

Last night, Obscured By Clouds
Over lunch yesterday at the shopping centre, Greg and I were imitating noises from " Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict".
Funny how we had no people sitting at tables near us. I don't understand why?

One of my friends had a quadraphonic setup in her lounge room. I remember late one evening, after a few, listening to Led Zepplins "Whole Lotta Love", it made the room spin so fast that I had to go lie down.

Rick Wright played one of his solo songs on David Gilmour (my fav) DVD "Meltdown Concert", Rick also toured with David on his "On An Island" Tour last year, if you don't have the "Remember That Night" on DVD then it's a MUST SEE! They played "Echoes" live and it was AWESOME!!!!
Anyway, Rick's song "Breakthrough" was a nice song played live...

It's sad to see that no-one lists Animals, ever. It is arguably their most technically-accomplished and timeless work. A dark horse. Masterpiece.
I am saddened by Richard's passing. Not only at his passing, but, at the fact that I will never get to see them together on stage.
You will be missed, Richard.

While in London in '94, I was staying within sight of the Battersea Power Station.
I became obsessed with it, trying to take a photo of it at exactly the same angle and light as the "Animals" album cover.
The Pig strung between the towers, also brings back memories of their concert in Brisbane many years ago.
I took along my cousins first wife, (she'd just moved down from one of the smaller islands of TI). She'd never been to a concert before.
I remember her face as the Pig flew across the audience, she couldn't wait to write home to her family about it. It could feed everyone is was so big.

On one business trip when I had time in the mid 90s, I walked all the way around Battersea Power Station (well what was left of it then - walls and four chimneys.) as close as I could get.
From Wikipedia:-
"The giant, helium (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helium)-filled pig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink_Floyd_Pig) seen on the cover was actually flown over Battersea Power Station (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battersea_Power_Station) for the photo shoot (under the direction of Storm Thorgerson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Storm_Thorgerson)). On the first day of shooting, a marksman was on hand in case the pig broke free. However, according to Thorgerson, this was considered an "insurance problem", and he was not hired for the second day of shooting. Ironically, on 3 December 1976, during the second day, a gust of wind broke the pig free of its moorings. Because there was no one to shoot the pig down, it sailed away into the morning sky. A passenger plane reported seeing the pig, causing all the flights at London Heathrow Airport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Heathrow_Airport) to be delayed[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]. A police helicopter was sent up to track the pig, but was forced to return after following the pig to an altitude of 5,000 feet. A warning was sent out to pilots that a giant, flying pink pig was loose in the area[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)]. The CAA lost radar contact on the pig near Chatham in Kent, at a height of 18,000 feet and flying East. It finally landed in a farmer's field, without much damage. They then repaired the pig, and flew it up for a third time. The resulting pictures were not deemed suitable on their own (as the clear, blue sky from day three was thought to be much less evocative), and the final image was made as a composite of the power station picture from day one and the pig from day three."

Finally, I have got a chance to sit down with this DVD tonight. Loving it. My el-cheapo DVD player couldn't cope with either dual-layer disc, so having to play back through my lappie. Sadly that means no digital surround sound, but the audio amp is manufacturing a suitable ambience. (Looks like a better brand DVD player is on the shopping list)
David Crosby and Graham Nash backing David Gilmour - great!
"High Hopes" playing now - one of my favourites.
Cannot think of a better topic for my 3000th post - it's a tough choice but I really do like Pink Floyd more than star-gazing! :D

Oh please, Crosby/Nash and Dave Gilmore/Pink Floyd in the same sentence?, Sacriledge !. The yanks were irelavent during Floyds (and anything British) heyday.
Congrats on your 3000th post Eric.
I was playing "A momentary lapse of reason" last night.
Great stuff.

This afternoon, just to test out the new telly, I've been playing the DVD "Dark Side of the Moon" from the Classic Albums series.
It's flipping awesome. 10 out of 10. You can play it over and again and still enjoy it.
Blurb from the cover.
"This is the story, told from the inside by the participants, of the creation of a masterpiece. The Dark Side Of The Moon is the album that dramatically transformed Pink Floyd from art house favourites to global stadium superstars."
"This programme takes a track by track look at the making of the 1973 album. All four members of the band at that time Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright are featured in exclusive interviews. Roger, David and Richard play songs and demonstrate themes from the album. Alan Parsons ( the original engineer) takes us through the multi track tapes giving a unique insight into the musical fabric of the record and the programme is illustrated throughout with archive footage."
I bought the DVD a couple of years ago now, it cost around $9 new.

Cloudless everyday you fall upon my waking eyes
Inviting and inciting me to rise
And through the window in the wall come streaming in on sunlight wings
A million bright ambassadors of morning
And no-one sings me lullabies
And no-one makes me close my eyes
And so I throw the windows wide
And call to you across the sky

"Fearless, You'll Never Walk Alone"
Memories of my late brother who was a huge Pink Floyd fan.
We were listening to Meddle the very last time I drove him to the Prince Charles Hospital. When this song came on we both started singing along to it. It was the closest I'd ever felt to him. To me it represented Dave's fight for health over the previous few months. He died a couple of days later.
We ended his Memorial Service by playing "Fearless".
