I'm not usually interested in opera, but Alessandro Safina's "Luna" blows me away. Give it a chance - listen to the whole thing, and stare up at the moon while you CRANK it. It's one of those tunes where the chorus crescendo won't leave your head for weeks.

I can add the Vangelis album 'Albedo 0.39'. I think every song is about space. The title track is basically synth effects with someone reading out a list of the Earth's specifications (mass, surface gravitation, oblatness, obliguity of the ecliptic, ..., "albedo 0.39").
Then of course there is:

Brian Eno's 'Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks' is the music to a film consisting entirely of images taken of the Moon by Apollo astronauts. Very quiet and drifty. For space travel of a very different type try Jon Anderson's 'Olias of Sunhillow'.
Of course, why didn't I think of it sooner? 'Across the Universe' by the Fab Four.

I have the entire 2-season series on specially-cut DVD's straight from the studio. Some of the only ones in existence. I got them from a family member of Imogen Coca (Shag...and then later "Shad").
Of course, you can get it all on YouTube, but in broken parts which is OK. Mu favourite two characters were "Gronk" (hubby), afterwhich I intend to name one of our future Pugs, and "Boss" - the village chief. Great opening sequence song. :)

You probably never will Andrew. This guy stated that the original master reels were the property of the Imogene Coca estate, and not the studio. Strange situation, but the estate wishes to never re-release the reels for public consumption. I guess copies have leaked out from studios and wherever else, which are what you'll see on YouTube.

Pleiadians - Identified Flying Object. Arguably the greatest psytrance album ever written. Today's (abysmal) output is still compared to this 1997 masterpiece. Each of the 7 tracks is named after the stars of the Pleiades; Maya, Taygeta, Merope, Alcyone, Electra, Asterope and Celaeno. Warning: it's (extremely) doof-doof music.
AstralTraveller, I'm loving your taste in ambient electronica. If you enjoy Vangelis and Eno, then, you would love anything by Klaus Schulze. Try this: Stardancer II (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=9MHKJ9bBJDY) off the Body Love 2 album, released in 1977. Schulze made the Moog his own; almost everything is space music. Especially considering that most of them are 30-minute long compositions.
Anything off the ten albums in the Dark Side of the Moog series by Pete Namlook, Klaus Schulze & Bill Laswell are simply awesome to listen to whilst observing and imaging. Interestingly, each of the albums was named after a pun on a Pink Floyd song. For example, Wish You Were There, Phantom Heart Brother, Obscured by Klaus, The Final DAT, and so on.
A random review:
Les, if you enjoy Tangerine Dream, then, you may be interested to know that Klaus Schulze was the original drummer for Tangerine Dream. :)
I simply cannot speak highly enough of these three prolific virtuosos whose collected works number in the thousands.

I'm glad to read that you're into psytrance and a bit of a doof-doof nut. I went to Earthcore in 2003.
If you want more names and albums, holler at me. I have a large electronica collection; from Italo disco (I can't get enough of the stuff) through to minimalist Detroit techno.
I read recently that Identified Flying Object is getting hard to find, and people are fetching close to $200 for their original CDs. I'm keeping mine safe and sound, that's for sure. :)

This was a concept album with seven tracks, Track 2 "Solar Fire" probably the best... (Though judging by Jen's humour, she just might like "Pluto : The Dog" (Prophesy perhaps of Pluto now in the Dog House??) Must listen for about 50 seconds at least...

I just noticed that.
That is, actually, a cover of Rainbow's Stargazer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SedQcg-65a8). As much as I love Dream Theater, I have to say the original is so much better. Dio's voice is amazing. The final two minutes of the song shine like nothing else. :)
