Did you get the new album, Victims of the Modern Age that came out late last year? He changed the theme somewhat this time, gone for a distopian future theme. Mad Max, Planet of the Apes sort of thing. Arjen got all of original singers and musos that he had on Space Metal.

Must be in fashion at the moment - or is it because Im a little obsesed at the moment that I am noticing a lot of space references!

Katy Perry has a new single out called ET

Eminem has a new one called space bound

There is also a new song about space by that group who made that really annoying like a G6 song.

Andrew,

I've got it. ; )

I've lately been mesmerised all over again by Opeth's first two masterpieces, Orchid and Morningrise. Such manic riffing and insane counterpoint guitaring. :eyepop:

Gaud Andrew, I had to google that, id forgotten, lucky I had. Acoustic with fancy vocals?, sheesh, awefull. Gimme Bohemian Rhapsody any day, that almost tops Muse in dramatic effect, a classic to be sure.

The best :

Flogging Molly - The worst day since yesterday.

Twas in the episode of SGU.....S01E09.
Haunting.... watch the youtube clip.

"Well I know, I miss more than hit
With a face that was launched to sink
An' I seldom feel, the bright relief
It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday

If there's one thing I have said
Is that the dreams I once had, now lay in bed
As the four winds blow, my wits through the door
It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday

Fallin' down to you sweet ground
Where the flowers they bloom
Well it's there I'll be found
Hurry back to me, my wild calling
It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday

Though these wounds have seen no wars
Except for the scars I have ignored
And this endless crutch, well it's never enough
It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday

Hell says hello, well it's time to I should go
To pastures green, that I've yet to see
Hurry back to me, my wild calling
It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday
It's been the Worst Day Since Yesterday "

sent shivers down my spine

Dogs In Space by Dogs In Space. An Australian band in the 70's (around the time that SkyLab broke up and pieces landed in Australia). The song is crap, but this was turned into a movie, now a cult movie that stars Michael Hutchence from INXS fame. I think that it was the only movie he ever appeared in, in this he has the lead role. They got their name from Leica-the dog that was sent up into space by the Russians.

Vintersorg - A Dialogue with the Stars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iI_8aMOqANg)

These myriads of stars
enchants me with their oddity.
At cosmos entrance hall,
where time and space unites in a charade.
Under crimson flares I watch
the tempest of the Universe.
In dark artistry,
I lionize the splendorous glare.

Vintersorg - Algol (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9VzaamBC50)

Algol, demon, capricious your brightness
shifts from day to day - rises, abates, intensifies
again, sometimes triumphant and sparkling,
sometimes pale and faint. For a long time
we've searched with wonder for the key
to this mystery, the right element to
your eager and changing, queer temperament.

Now we've dispersed the haze of the riddle:
you've got a companion on your journey,
like a slave, a faithful shadow he
constantly follows you on your desolate
path, he circles and sneaks quiet around you, closely.

Never have we seen his guise, dark, parches,
stiff and cold, but still we know he exists;
like ashamed he hides behind you - free
and merry you shine - until he once
again crawls out of the darkness and
covers you. And your glare becomes
pallid and dull, and your mind cloudy.

Now we've dispersed the haze of the riddle:
you've got a companion on your journey,
like a slave, a faithful shadow he
constantly follows you on your desolate
path, he circles and sneaks quiet around you, closely.

And similar there are - many Algols
wanders in the space - maybe even
more among us on earth. Sunlight spirits
darkened by a shadow, young princes
concealed by old slaves, doublesouls,
divided creatures - a blissful son of the
light indissolubely linked with a bitter dark demon.

Now we've dispersed the haze of the riddle:
you've got a companion on your journey,
like a slave, a faithful shadow he
constantly follows you on your desolate
path, he circles and sneaks quiet around you, closely.

Vintersorg is king.

I thought I'd inject some new blood into this old thread !

The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra produced a double CD album called "Space and Beyond" of which I have only half ! and it's all space themed music, sound tracks and SFX.

This orchestra is a leading provider of major motion picture scores

They also produced the double album "Space & Beyond II - Alien Invasion" and contributed to another double called "Battlestar Galactica - The A To Z Of Fantasy TV"
I think there are other albums as well - all having soundtracks from various well known space movies and space series.

Listen & enjoy !

Rally
PS - Should I list all the tracks ? - there's 30-40 per set

10 minute excerpt from Klaus Schulze's 1977 masterpiece, Velvet Voyage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7D6UqNq4wo).

The full 28 minutes and 37 seconds journey through space can be found here (http://youtu.be/mlzFlytYUus).

While I'm at it.

Tetsuo Inoue and Jonah Sharp's 1994 mammoth effort Shades of Orion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkONXhPyMGE). All 1 hour 11 minutes and 12 seconds of it.

A very fitting Rob Gendler image.

Enjoy.

Shades of Orion is very nice. This is nice soft music that I can play whilst I am in my observatory. It is close to my neighbours bedroom, so I can only play very soft music. That is why I mostly play Vangelis. Thanks for the recommendations. :)

The Fountain soundtrack - Clint Mansell

Even though the lyrics and names of the songs aren't directly astronomy related, they are what I would ultimately listen to when looking up at the night sky. They give me this awe inspiring, thought provoking, butterflies in the stomach feeling. I never get tired of hearing it.
