I'm running Firefox 2 on both my desktop and lappy. When I started my desktop this afternoon, Firefox wouldn't start - won't start from desktop link, or programs menu, nor will it start in safe mode.

I tried IE... it won't start from desktop shortcut either, but starts from program menu.

Scanned for spyware, cleaned and rebooted. No change. Currently scanning for virii now, but that will take some time.

Anyone have any other suggestions of things to look at or check?

(I'm on the lappy ATM;)).

Hmmmm....

I may have fixed it???

While scanning for virii, tied Firfox again. Still no go. So I opened Task manager and noticed 2 instanced of FIREFOX.EXE running under processes (none in applications). I deleted both processes and IE popped up. So I changed the home page in IE to IceInSpace and closed it down.

Tried Firefox again, and it has started.

Fingers crossed it is fixed...

Hi
Try to uninstall Firefox 2 and install Firefox 3.
Delete IE shortcut from desktop and create new one.

I have the same thing happen a fair bit at work with firefox - if it crashes there can still be an instance running and you need to kill the process or reboot the pc. I still prefer firefox to explorer at work though.

Have you ever watched a tv show called "The I.T. Crowd" Al? Good old Brittish humour, and with a valuable lesson for anyone diagnosing a computer related problem: Have you switched it off and on again? :D

You talked me into it.;) ... but I downloaded the Firefox 3 setup file and when I ran it it told me the file was corrupt:rolleyes:. Lucky I hadn't uninstalled FF2 yet... I'll have to download it again...

Can't say I've seen it, but yes I did that!;)

...or you could do yourself a favour and download Opera 9.5, which includes a full-strength email client as well as the browser - and runs in 60-100Mb, not 750Mb like FireFox!!!! Now I run all browsing and email functions from Opera alone - no need for FF and/or Thunderbird.

FF and Thunderbird have gone way over the top and hog more system resources than IE/Outlook Express ever did. Strange, considering that the reason they became popular in the first place was that they ran in a tiny footprint compared to the MS offerings.
